Subject: [TampaBay-WordPress-User-Group] WordCamp Orlando Ticket Discount!

Hello all members!

I bet some of you forgot you were even a member of this group, it's pretty rare I email all 600+ of you at the same time.

WordCamp Orlando 2013 is quickly approaching next month, and if you have not yet purchased a ticket yet, you're in luck, because I have a $5 off coupon code for you!

The first 100 people to use the coupon code 'wcmeetup' when purchasing their ticket will get the $5 off. The code is entered via the link at the bottom of the page here: http://2013.orlando.wordcamp.org/registration/

Be sure to purchase your tickets by tomorrow. Why? To guarantee your t-shirt size when you get there. If your purchase later, they can't guarantee your shirt size (but you'll definitely get a shirt regardless!).

General Updates on WC Orlando:

  • Our speaker list is near finalized. We've got great talent locally, nationally and even internationally that will be attending to share their WordPress knowledge. Check out the schedule here: http://2013.orlando.wordcamp.org/schedule/
  • Saturday will have three full tracks of talks. Sunday will start out with a fun social brunch to wake everyone up after the Saturday night after-party, then we'll move into a business panel before lunch where you'll be able to ask questions of several local agency owners. The afternoon will consist of two tracks of speakers, as well as a workshop room and a contribute room.
  • The workshop room will be run by the awesome James Tryon and Zac Gordon. They'll have some additional helpers with the goal of doing hands-on training. You'll get a quick presentation on doing something in WordPress (there'll be a few topics), then time to ask questions and work together to do it yourself. The goal is to do more focused training than a regular lecture, to make sure you really get the idea down!
  • The contribute room will have bona fide WordPress celebrities - Mark Jaquith, Aaron Holbrook and Pippin Williamson - working with attendees that want to give back to the WordPress project. You'll get training on how to work with trac and core, as well as submitting patches. If coding isn't your thing, there's also room for designers and UI/UX, as well as content contributors for the Codex and handbooks.
  • Saturday night will have an after party, which we're still working out, but will be very close to the venue. Some drinks and snacks will be provided but we'll also have info on restaurants nearby for dinner.

This will be a really fun event, and I hope to organize a carpool or even a van load of folks to get there.

Some Tampa WP News:

Our Drinks After Work "tour", as someone dubbed it, is coming to an end. It was not as successful as I had imagined and it may be due to how early I set the time. It was really meant for folks within the neighborhood to come together directly after work. We'll try something new another time.

Our Workshop has been secured at the new IADT building off Dale Mabry, in December. It's on Saturday, December 7th. A bit more details can be found on the event page: http://www.meetup.com/Tampa-Bay-WordPress/events/136747212/

Lastly, we are doing some venue research. If you or someone you know has contacts at the following venues for a *larger* event, please email me privately at [address removed]:

  • University of Tampa
  • HCC - Ybor

We have contacts for the other schools currently. Thank you for your participation in this matter. See you for the last Drinks after work event in Ybor and after that, WordCamp Orlando!!
