Regular Monthly Meeting

Humanism; an urgent ingredient for civilization

Every controversy, every idea, every social movement: all have a humanistic component, one that needs to be close to the central core which drives change.

Nothing is meaningful in our lives without that positive and engaging sense of humanity to give it the savor we need to keep moving forward in developing new areas of freedom while abolishing archaic constraints.

It sometimes seems that we spend enormous energy in slogging through the mud of old stupidities like racism, religion, ignorance, and general backwardness.  We need bold new visions to see that every wretched bit of nonsense from the past can be safely discarded.  We have the tools.  We have the drives, we have the need to go beyond the ties of ancient ways and places.

The possibilities here on planet earth that can be realized with the exercise of curiosity and imagination are but the beginning of a long journey to the stars.

As Carl Sagan and Neil Degrasse Tyson have shown us in the Cosmos series, there are few perceptible limits on where we may go, or what we may do.

Join us to talk about the role Humanism plays in our future.
All are welcome!

It's Mother's Day, but my plans include visiting my son in Atlanta next weekend and sharing my daughter Father's Day weekend with her dad in Pinellas.
