Common Core Informational Forum

Please plan to attend the Common Core Informational Forum on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Bell Shoals Baptist Church. The forum begins at 6:45pm in the Special Events Center. Both sides of the debate will be presented.

From the Press Release:

In response to the sometimes-heated debate regarding the implementation of the Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI), the Community Issues Team of Bell Shoals Baptist Church is bringing together a panel of experts to discuss various aspects of the CCSSI. Confirmed panelists include: Khori Whittaker, Director of External Affairs (Southwest Florida) for Foundation for Florida’s Future; Randy Osborne, Director of Education for Florida Eagle Forum; and Terry Kemple, President, Community Issues Council.

The topics to be addressed at this Forum are:

Descriptions of the background and origins of CCSSI

Comparison of the quality of Florida’s Next Generation Sunshine State Standards with the quality of CCSSI

The financial aspects of the CCSSI on the Florida State budget

Data gathering and use

CCSSI impact on state, local and parental control of public, private, and homeschools

The long-term impact of CCSSI on Florida and our families

Governor Scott's Executive Order--What it DOES and what it DOES NOT do.

We invite you to come hear the panelists’ views both for and against on all subjects relating to Common Core State Standards Initiative.  There will also be time for attendees to ask questions regarding the above topics.
