Loved BarCamp Tampa and Justin Davis's website throwdown. I'm a freelance writer interested to learn more as I build a new website for my business.

Thanks so much for organizing this meet-up. The information shared was invaluable for someone like me who enjoys building websites. It's a tough location, but the office space is very comfortable and you did a great job with organization, signage etc. I'll be back next month and will tweet and promote the event among my networks. Awesome meetup! Thanks to everyone who came! To those that couldnt make it, we want feedback! Was it the time? The weather? The traffic? Your religion doesn't allow you to partake in pizza and beer? ;)

We're looking forward to it as well! Do you have a mobile site you would like to have critiqued?

      September 17, 2013

  • Julian H.

What exactly does a throw down entail?

    September 12, 2013

    • Krissy S.

      Hi Julian!
The throw down is a panel-like critique of mobile sites our group members in the audience offer up for review. The critique is based on usability, design, pattern and lightweight programming principles compliance. It's great for the people who offer the websites because they get honest, professional and free advice. It's great for the group because we can all learn from the discussion. It is very relaxed, informal and fun evening. Does that help?

      September 12, 2013

    • Julian H.

      Sure does, thanks!

      September 12, 2013

  • Mike G.

Hi Julian, we got the term from Justin Davis's Homepage Throwdowns. Basically its just a fun interactive live critique/feedback session for sites. What he did (and what we plan to do) is get some URLs from attendees that would like feedback on their site. Can be anything from visual design, content layout, general UX, whatever we (or the group) notice and see. Justin's were focused on how they look in the desktop web view, and we thought it'd be fun to extend that and a mobile web focused view. So its not apps, but how does your site look on a phone web browser. There aren't many rules, except that you need a site, need to want feedback on it, and need to have tough skin, cuz we'll be honest (not mean, but honest) :)

It ends up being a fun discussion of design, dev, and UX patterns. Its not a lecture or speech.

    Does that help?

    September 12, 2013

  • Mike G.

Lol, Dave and I are by NO MEANS 'mobile masters'. Just UX Designers/Developers with an eye for good experience. It will defintely be more of a participatory discussion than us sitting up there telling people how it should be. :) Thanks for the kind billing though Krissy.

Thanks 352 for setting up a dedicated ux meetup!

    2 · September 2, 2013

    • Krissy S.

Thanks Mike! We are pretty excited about sharing experiences and being champions for the user!

      September 5, 2013

  • Chris W.

How does this work if you're a hardcore native-code developer?

    September 5, 2013

    • Krissy S.

Hi Chris! There will definitely be a benefit to you attending the mobile throwdown. The critiques will be based on overall design and usability. Our panel will consist of UX, UI, dev and programming professionals so there will be multiple perspectives represented. I hope you can join us!
