SWIG presents: South African Wine Festival- £12.50!!! (Bon Vivant's go free)

With so many wine tastings, I'm very picky as to which ones I recommend and attend personally.  And this one is too good to miss!!!

For only £12.50, you'll be able to taste around 75 wines. And learn a little too!

MY THOUGHTS ON SOUTH AFRICAN WINES:

South African wines have an enjoyable distinct flavour profile, and they seem to be have accuired the best of both Old World and New World wines.  Fruit driven, but balanced with earthy flavours.  For me, I'm a bit bored of the main stream grapes and regions and get really excited when ever I taste a wine from SA. Okay - enough of the wine geek talk!!!!

ABOUT YOUR HOST:

This online wine shop planted its roots in posh Belsize Park on the outskirts of Hampstead Heath.  I love it's branding, it's 'tone of voice' and their ethos.  And aparently, I'm not the only one...

Shortlisted for National Merchant of the Year 2012, Decanter Magazine
Shortlisted for Direct Merchant of the Year 2012, International Wine Challenge

“Swig's notes are exceptional. Such a good read, a model of entertainment and information" - Jancis Robinson

"I reckon you guys are about the best wine merchant in the market at present for those who are happy to live on the newer shores of wine-making. There a few niche offers (Sampler are quite cute), and on the old turf Berry’s (Berry Brothers and Rudd) still rule, but for a “progressive” merchant I think you have it. Breadth of choice, off piste makers, depth of advice among your colleagues, acute sense of price points, etc etc" Patrick H. April 2013

So, even if you can't come along to the event, check em out!!!!

WHAT STYLE OF EVENT IS IT:

If you've never been to a wine festival,  there will be lots of tables, each with around different 10 wines to try. In total probably around 200 wines.  You walk around, sampling the different wines and talking to the producers. It's very informal and not snobby at all - it's amazing!  I try to focus on one grape at a time, meaning that I will try a Sauvingon Blanc from each table. Or I try all the whites first, then come back and try the reds.

LOCATION:

Venue:
The Centenary Hall, Copthorne Hotel
Chelsea Football Club, Stamford Bridge
London, SW6 1HS

For directions click here

TIMES:

The tasting starts at 7, but its not a guided tasting, so you can arrive anytime.  I'll meet people at the entrance at 7, 8 and 9 pm.  Hopefully everyone will meet at 9, for a debreif on the wines you liked and maybe a meal - after all that's why we come in a group!

HOW TO BUY YOUR TICKET:

I've arranged a special discount for all meetup members: This is a great value event and you'll love it - there are so many top quality wines that you will most likely drink over £50 worth if you were at a restaurant.

It was a fun and informative evening, delicious wines - didn't have a clue who was in the Meetup Group so I never actually 'Metup' with any of you. :))

Really fun eve after the mix up finding the venue! The only downside was that it was a bit unclear from Meetup on how to pay before the event. Otherwise it was ace :)

A good event, very well run. I agree it wasn't optimum for interpersonal Meetup but still, very enjoyable - and it was nice to head out afterwards for a bite to eat. I missed you, Kelly, but American Craig did a great job.

Too widespread for an interpersonal Meetup but a good tasting anyway.

Hello! Looks like an amazing group tonight. I'm really sorry to miss it, but I've had something come up that I can't wiggle out of. Craig is a really great host though, so I know you're in good hands! He'll make sure you meet others in the group. (Bon Vivant, will you make sure all the Tastour virgins are well looked after too?)

If you haven't bought a ticket, please bring the correct change of £12.50 tonight, as this is a special offer, and they may not be able to make change. Craig is going to meet people throughout the night. He has emailed his number out. He doesn't want it on the site, so you will need to email him to get it, if you've just signed up. http://www.meetup.com/Tastour/members/11320980/

    Hi Kelly,
I would like to pay the 12.50 for this evening's event but the SWIG website states that it's no longer available. Is there another way to pay or is the event closed. I am a Meetup member but not a Bon Vivant member.
    Thank you for your assistance.
    Rosemarie

Yes, you can pay on the door. Best to have exact change, as I've asked the organiser as a special favour.

      September 11, 2013

  • Katrina W.

Oh no! I hadn't seen a link to pay so was assuming we pay on the door? If not I have the same query as Rosemarie!

    All the best

Sorry but can't come as I have a separate engagement. Seems good value even if you have to pay £12.50 - I am doing a tasting the following week for £20 which is certainly not giving me access to 50 wines. Have fun everyone!
