Let's taste Vintage TeaWorks teas

A tea so sexy and playful, you’d think it was wine! That is how Vintage TeaWorks describes their tea - do we agree?

Vintage TeaWorks sent us samples of 5 of their tea blends: Puerh Cabernet, Green Tea Sauvignon, Oolong Chardonnay, Black Tea merlot, and White Tea Riesling.

"Our Story

At Vintage TeaWorks, we are passionate about two things – tea and wine. So passionate are we about these divine delights that we set out to find a way to bring the two of them together. We scoured the market and were disappointed to see what was available – teas that were artificially flavored to mimic wine weren’t what we expected or what we wanted. We knew we could do better and Vintage TeaWorks was born.  Our teas aren't meant to mimic or recreate wine, but rather to celebrate wine and tea's unique characteristics."

What we'll do ...  using tasting cup sets with measured tea samples and timed steeping, we will infuse as many of the samples as we can get through. For each sample, we will do three infusions. We will taste a sample iced and a sample with sugar and milk. We will infuse a sample in spirits, probably vodka, and taste that. It's a tough job but someone has to do it.

We will make notes about how the tea stands up to three infusions, how it tastes iced and with added milk and sugar. Then we will note how it reacts in spirits. We'll make notes about foods that would pair well the tea and any other general comments that come up.

I work from and make notes in my book -  Tea Taster's Journal by Elaine E. Terman. Feel free to bring your own tea journal or pad of paper and pen. I have some Tea Taster's Journals for sale $15.95.

From past experience, I have found we can get through two samples in an hour and a half. I'll have palate cleansing snacks and water to drink, as well as what is needed for the Tea Tasting.

A special invitation to those of you who are wine drinkers as well as tea drinkers - I am not a wine drinker. Many of the terms used in tea tasting are the same as those in wine tasting. It would be great to get a tasting perspective from both sides.
