The Long Beach AIDS Ride is a fundraising event produced by, and benefiting the The Gay and Lesbian Center of Long Beach (The Center) and the Comprehensive AIDS Resource and Education (CARE) program at St Mary Medical Center. The event is designed to support local Long Beach efforts in the areas of education, prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS pandemic and related illness. It is also a platform to increase positive, life-affirming experiences for people affected and infected by HIV & AIDS and to encourage activism in the Greater Long Beach community.
We look forward to meeting you on ride day Saturday Nov 30, 2013, at Long Beach, Junipero Ave., beach parking lot. You will check-in and pick up your number. Be aware there is a $10.00 fee for parking on the beach lot. You may also park up on Ocean Blvd. for no fee. Check-in opens at 6:00am. There are opening ceremonies and a mandatory safety briefing.
The 75-mile ride starts promptly at 7:30am. The 40-mile ride starts at 8:00am. The route travels down the beautiful coast to Orange County.
Please wear your approved helmet. Also, we recommend you bring sunscreen, sunglasses, water bottles, extra tubes, emergency pump, your ID and emergency contact information. During the ride please remember to be considerate of other riders and always ride in a single file for everyone’s protection. Fresh fruit and refreshments will be provided throughout the ride. Lunch will be provided at the end of the ride. We also have bike support teams and registered nurses on the route to ensure your safety and well-being.
Remember to invite your friends and family to cheer you on at the kickoff at 7:30am. You are also encouraged to continue fundraising until Dec. 13th. You can invite more riders to join us; sign-up on the morning of the event is available on site.
