'Delicious' ways to integrate technology into practice

Many current web-based tools, such as blogs, wikis, social-networking or social-bookmarking sites facilitate communication, information sharing, and collaboration on the Internet, yet many of them are very new to the teaching practice.

Our very first informal Tech Tuesday event will introduce participants to one of these emerging web-based tools called Delicious, a free social bookmarking site that allows users to store, manage, and share links to web pages with the public and other educators and build a collection of online resources that can easily be drawn on.

In the meeting we will share how to set up your own account, how to save and manage the links to web sites as bookmarks, and how to use networks to share your bookmarks with others. Interesting websites and samples of Delicious accounts featuring collections of online resources set up specifically for adult basic education field will be used.

During and after the session we will have a chance to mix, share opinions and ideas, and discuss if and how we use web-based tools in our programs and explore how Tech Tuesdays can help participants further their technology needs and objectives.

My sincere thank you to everyone for attending our first meeting. Debbie, thank you for your comments. I think we had a great turnout and I hope everyone was able to get something from our session. I know I learned a lot as well. I look forward to seeing everyone at our next meetings.

I was happy to see that we had participants who were new to Delicious and those who were very familiar with it. It allowed us to have a very good discussion about the tool and share how it can be used in real life. I look forward to our future meetings where we can explore and learn from each other about other social media tools and resources.

Good information session, but I also appreciated meeting others in the field.

It is a good way to organize and share bookmarks with our members and colleagues as well as quickly and easily access information on more than one computer.

It was great to hear how people at the meeting want to use Delicious as a tool to support their work as peer trainers especially. The social aspect of Delicious really appealed to people I think.

Delicious is a great way to organize and share bookmarks. The sharing is a powerful tool. The ability to access bookmarks from any computer with Internet access can be very useful.

It was a long time to sit and concentrate on a subject without a break. Information was presented in a well organized way
