What Can Cloud Do for You?

The Topic:

You’ve probably seen the “to the cloud” commercial and are aware of the hype that makes cloud computing sound like the next best thing since sliced bread, but do you really know what cloud computing is? And what it’s not? When does it make sense? And when doesn’t it? What does it mean to us as software developers, startup entrepreneurs, and end-users? And how do you sort through all of the vendors and offerings to determine whose cloud portfolio offers the most value to you? We’ll look at all of these questions and more as we spend the evening navigating through the cloudscape.

Meet the Presenter:

Jim O’Neil is a Developer Evangelist for Microsoft covering New England and Upstate New York. For the past two years or so, he’s been focused on educating developers on the technologies, architectures, and value propositions of cloud computing. Most recently he’s presented on cloud computing and Windows Azure at Sybase TechWave, The Best of TechEd (Rochester), and MongoBoston.

The presentation was informative (as a beginner) and the speaker was able to address the questions with much detail - thoroughly enjoyed my 1st meeting!

Very nice overview! It would be great to have an in-depth discussion of strategies for adoption.

Great background to the cloud and its major players. It differentiated the offerings and allowed me to decide where our application would best be positioned, as well as define the magnitude of effort it would take to get it there. I left feeling positive and less naive.
