Join us as we explore the beautiful Hiwassee River with wetsuit, snorkel and mask. The Hiwassee has a wide variety of game & non-game fishes including the beautiful Tangerine Darter, and is also home to a healthy population of Hellbender; America's largest amphibian!. This river contains more species of fish than the entire Colorado River watershed!!
This trip costs $25. $20 of which goes directly to the Forest Service for rental of a wetsuit, mask and snorkel, along with expert guides provided by the agency. We are tacking on a $5 fee to cover some of our organizational expenses. We will meet at 10am am at the gravel lot across TN30 from the Hiwassee Corner Market. We'll then drive less than 10 minutes to our put-in location. Please bring a bag lunch, towel, and water shoes (tevas or chacos, or old sneakers) and prepare to be blown away by the underwater world in the Hiwassee.
There is an age limit of 12 imposed by the Forest Service. Children 12 and up are strongly encouraged to attend.
Registration for this outing will open on July 3 at 9 am.
There will be a carpool / caravan from the Chattanooga area leaving the Starbucks at 2217 Hamilton Place Blvd, Chattanooga, TN at 9:00 am. This is off I-75 at exit 5 (Shallowford Road).
