8 mile hike in the Little Frog Wilderness on the Rock Creek Trail

This strenuous 8 mile in & out hike will take us into Pressley Cove using the Rock Creek Trail This trail has a long (3 miles) steady climb on the way in, and a short (1 mile) steep climb on the way out. The Tennessee Wilderness Act of 2011 will expand the Little Frog Wilderness by 978 acres. This hike will pass through the existing wilderness. During lunch along a beautiful creek, passages from writings of John Muir, Henry David Thoreau or Aldo Leopold will be shared by Tennessee Wild’s Jeff Hunter. Wearing blaze orange is recommended.

Great hike, beautiful mountain area, huge hemlock and poplar trees and lunch at a mountain creek in a grove of large hemlock and white pines. Loved it and will be going back again soon.

I will be at the Starbucks at 2217 Hamilton Place Blvd, Chattanooga at 7:30 am. We will depart from there at 7:45 am. This is off of exit 5 on I-75 (Shallowford Rd). If you want to go directly to the trailhead, take I-75 north to exit 20. Head east and follow signs to the Cherokee National Forest. Take HWY 64 East. This will take you past Parksville lake and through the Ocoee Gorge. When the road turns back to 4 lane, the center is on the Right in approx 1.5 miles. Jeff[masked]
