Urban Nature Hike + Hunter Museum Exploration

This is our third outing held in conjunction with the Hunter Museum of Art. We will take a 7 mile walk on the Tennessee Riverwalk Greenway, walking from the museum to the Amnicola Marsh & back. When we arrive at the museum, Education Curator Adera Causey will lead us through the Hunter Museum's two current temporary exhibits. Registration will open for this outing on January 30. Here is the Hunter Museum's write-up for this fun & educational outing;

To better understand the landscapes in our current temporary exhibitions, we are partnering with Tennessee Wild once again on a guided hike through our local landscape followed by a gallery experience with art at the Hunter. We will meet in the Hunter lot at 9 a.m. and proceed on an urban nature hike on the Tennessee River walk. The group will then return to the Hunter around 1 p.m. for a guided gallery exploration of some of the works in our current temporary exhibitions, Exploring the Land: Landscapes from the Hunter Museum Collection and Beauty Beyond Nature: The Glass Art of Paul Stankard. This program is open to all ages and experience levels and participants are asked bring a sack lunch. Walk is free and gallery portion costs $9.95 ($4.95 for children, free to Hunter members. Program co-sponsored by Tennessee Wild.

    The weather was great and the hikers friendly. I had the twins with me so couldn't go the entire way, but we had a great time. One that we wish could go on and on.

      Believe me, I've thought about leashes, but there are always those poles and trees to get tangled up in. I figure by the time they're 18-20 years old they might have grown out of their playful state, but I can always hope not.

      Defintely hope not! Playful is a wonderful thing. I thought your children were very well behaved and true to themselves in being children. My youngest was more playful than my twins. They were readers, where my youngest was a climber, runner, - into everything and today he is a soldier and I wouldn't trade his lively spirit for anything. :-)

    Really enjoyed the hike. Jeff was very knowledgeable and informative. Learned some things that I didn't know. I had a wonderful time and look forward to future hikes.

      I felt the same. I stayed for just a bit but couldn't do the rest of the museum. Maybe on a combo-outing , we can do a lunch break before doing the second half. But then people may feel it would be an all day thing and not have time for that.

    Thanks to all who attended! Please take a moment this week and call or write to Lamar Alexander & Bob Corker and ask them to reintroduce the Tennessee Wilderness Act. Thanks!

    I'm going to have to cancel...plans are still up in the air and I'll probably have to go to Atlanta. If it doesn't happen and I see spots left in the morning, I'll show up if that's okay!

      We will be looking at an Ansel Adams photo in the museum after our walk. It is a New Mexico landscape, not all that far from Los Alamos.

      I will invite him for sure! It would be a good outing. He said he had to be back for work in Nashville in the afternoon.

    I'll have to cancel for the hike and Hunter, family activities have come up. When they're in their late 20's and they want mom around, I better show up. Have fun...see you next time.
