Back by popular demand! We're going to start at Eakin Elementary School near Fannie Mae Dees Park (aka Dragon Park) and going to have dinner at the end (instead of mid-hike as before). Please read the description for more details.
Departure Time: 6:30 pm SHARP (unless we have good reason to wait).
Distance: Roughly 5 miles
Hike Time: 2 hours
We will start from Eakin Elementary School and head west to Love Circle and up the steps to the top for a 360° view of Nashville. Then, we'll head into Vanderbilt by Dudley Field and frat row to see any students hung over from the weekend.
Then, we'll head north to pass by the law school, the Owen Graduate School of Management, and the slightly creepy "Tree of Learning" before making it over the bridge to Peabody College, looking at all the naked statues along the way, before heading back toward Fannie Mae Dees Park via Belcourt to climb on the park's giant dragon and ending back at Eakin Elementary School.
This "hike" is for regular urban and experienced hikers. Please, no slow walkers yet, since there won't be a "sweep" or rear leader since the route is still new. We'll go at a moderate pace, however, to keep the group together.
This week, we will walk or drive to a nearby restaurant after the hike. Please come with suggestions on where else you would like to go the following week. We'll try various affordable restaurants around the area.
LOCATION DETAILS: Eakin Elementary School, 2500 Fairfax Avenue, Nashville, TN 37212. We'll meet in the parking lot on 26th Ave S, just north of Fairfax Avenue. The parking lot is NOT ON FAIRFAX! Approximate GPS coordinates of the parking lot are[masked],-86.80825.
MISCELLANEOUS: Questions? Call or e-mail James [masked]) or Frank Will [masked]). Running late? Please call or text James or Frank, although please don't text and drive. Can't make it? Please be courteous and change your RSVP as early as possible! Posted times are departure times. We will leave on time unless we have a compelling reason to wait a few minutes longer.
