Easy 8-9 mile hike at Montgomery Bell State Park

Join us for a easy hike at Montgomery Bell State Park, according to the "60 Hikes within 60 miles of Nashville" book the hike is about 7 miles. However, we will be taking a slightly different route, making it perhaps around 9 miles. There are no major hills or tricky footing, or significant water crossings. We will travel portions of the Overnight trail, Ore Pit Loop Trail, and some connecting trails. We will see Creech Hollow and Lake Woodhaven lakes, pass the overnight Woodland shelter, one or two cemeteries, an old stone church, and a log cabin replica. We also will pass through an interesting area that was all torn up for ore pit mining many years ago. Parts of the trail follow old horse and wagon trails.

We will take our time and enjoy the scenery and take photos. I have done the full trail several times before and always enjoy it.

Several of us hiked this a few months ago and we had to navigate off trail to find a different way to cross the river due to a missing bridge. However, the bridge has been rebuilt and I expect no difficulties.

I am so sorry that I missed this. I did not see the email that a spot had opened up so that I could attend. I know there were other people waiting to go too and this was a lost spot. Again, so sorry. Look forward to going in the future.

Thanks Lisa. I could not remember if you showed or not. I know there are times when things happen and people don't show for good reasons. It is sad though that every hike has a few who don't show and someone else misses out. However, yesterday's hike worked out pretty good for everyone. I'm glad that you gave an explanation, so many don't show and never say sorry. Thanks again, hope to see you next time. BTW, those who often don't show and never have a reason will be manually removed from hike lists in the future when there is a wait list. You did the right thing.

Great group of hikers! We stayed together pretty good, even up that very steep section at the end of the hike. Weather was great. I'm sure I will schedule this hike again soon.

Is the meeting place, the Ranger Station, easy to find?

    July 12, 2013

    • James Q

FYI...There is a south entrance off Hwy 47, in which you will need to go through the park, since the ranger station is close to the north entrance.

Good point James. Always check the map that I provide in the "Times and Locations" section, as I have it marked with the exact spot as close as possible.

Looks like this hike is popular. I wish I could open it up to more people, however the park is restrictive on large groups of hikers. Please be sure to un-rsvp if you are not going to let someone on the wait list the opportunity. I'll do this hike again soon I hope, to let more enjoy it.

I can't guide both. I also can't prevent anyone from showing up a public park and following.

I can't make it, and un-RSVP'd, but would love to do it in the future
