The Chocolate\Coffee\Mint Stout and One Last Hike with Frank Hike

WHY SHOULD I GO? Because the idea of a Chocolate\Coffee\Mint flavored Stout is very intriguing! Oh, and you would love a 6.5 mile strenuous hike where we will see some big elevation changes, amazing karst formations, and a naturally formed 200 foot deep sink! But did I mention the Chocolate\Coffee\Mint Stout?!

Meetup Time @  Carpool8:30 a.m. (CT): Park-n-Ride off Exit 61 I-65 South, Take exit 61 Peytonsville Rd. go east and take first left on Long Rd, then parking area is the first right.

Meetup Time @ Trailhead: ~10:30 a.m. CT

Difficulty Level: Strenuous, for steep descent and ascent. This is an exploratory hike, we are not sure what it will be like. DO NOT SIGN up for this strenuous all day event if you are not in good physical condition!

Hiking Distance : 6.5 miles

Drive Time: 2 hour carpool point.

This is a 21 and up hike. We will be visiting Salty Nut Brewery's Taproom after and they only serve beer!

We begin at by taking the McKay's Trail to the Natural Well Trail, after hiking to the Natural Well we will return to McKay's Trail and continue to the South Plateau, after this we will follow this back to the parking lot! From here we head to the Salty Nut Brewery for the real reason to come to Alabama! They do not serve food but I am working with the Taproom staff to see if a food truck will be there or what food we can either order for delivery or bring in with us. I may work in a brewery tour if possible!! They do have other brews for those of you who aren't stout drinkers!

Bring plenty of water and snacks to sustain you.

The total hiking time (including lunch) should be roughly 5 hours.

Hiking shoes or boots strongly recommended we will be out there a few hours and I am not sure what the path is like. If the ground is wet, or it's raining, the dry creek beds will become stream crossings and the trail will get muddy and messy. A spare pair of dry socks is recommended.

LINKS Trail Map & Google Directions

IMPORTANT FINAL NOTE Barring forecasts of hazardous weather conditions, this is a rain or shine event. Our estimated arrival time at McKay's Trailhead parking lot should be 10:00 a.m. (CT).  Check back often...I may make some changes.

Watching the weather today. The hike is still on at this point. The worst looks north of Nashville, but we will re-evaluate in the AM. Huntsville is supposed to be in the 30s and 40s tomorrow with no rain until night. So keep checking back and if you are in an area that can't make it please change your RSVP. Thanks!
