If you answered yes to any of these questions, then come join our beginners running group. If you join us and participate regularly, I guarantee you'll achieve your running goals.
This is a beginners run group, and your not expected to run the full distance right away. But it is a running program, and intended for those wishing to become runners. So if walking is your only desire, this meetup group offers regular weekly hikes, and many individual hikes on weekends that will fit your needs better. Our runs will take place on the Stones River Greenway starting from the Kohl’s Department Store parking lot off of Lebanon Road, or from the Percy Priest Dam trailhead just off Bell Rd. Each run will be an out and back run for a total of 3+ miles(5K), or a 6+ miles(10K) for the more advanced runners. We'll run each week on Tuesday and Thursday, and the starting trailhead will be the same for both days of that week. The starting trailhead will always be posted at the top of each individual event page, but I'll also verbally announce any change a week in advance at our runs. By occasionally changing the location and route we run, it will keep your body and mind challenged by not being the same terrain or scenery.
Again, this is a beginners run series, and you're not expected to run the full 3 miles right away. The goal is to work up to it gradually, and to concentrate on making improvements each time out. Every time you participate, you'll complete the full 3 miles (5K) giving it your best effort. If you join us and participate regularly in this program, I can guarantee you'll be running the full 3 miles within 2 months.
So here's the plan: We'll meet every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 5:30, 6:00, 6:15, 6:30 depending on your run classification. The purpose for these different start times is so that we'll all finish around the same time. We like hanging out after our runs at the finish line, giving our runners encouragement as they come across. This is also designed as a social event for runners, and after our runs is the best time for us to congregate.
Depending on the severity of the weather, the run may be cancelled.

New 10K runners~ start time @ 5:30 ~ led by Jennifer Lupa
Experienced 10K runners~ start time @ 6:00 ~ led by Dawn Greer
New 5K runners who can't run the full distance~ start time @ 6:15 ~ check in with Neal Smith
5K runners who are capable of running the full distance~ start time @ 6:30 ~ led by Neal Smith
If you plan on training for the 10K distance, please only do so if you're capable of running it in less than 1 hour and 30 minutes. Again, we want everyone to finish around the same time as our main group running the 5K.
So come on out everyone and "GET FIT" with your hiking friends. It doesn't matter what kind of shape you're in, what matters is your desire to run, and that you're out there trying to improve your fitness.
