How it works
Would you like to learn how to play tennis in a social friendly group? It's great exercise and fun.
In essence we have coaching for beginners and drills and skills for improvers and intermediate levels.
The organiser is not a tennis coach but I can give guidance to beginners and some pointers to improvers/intermediate players. A professional coach is brought in, where possible, when we have appropriate confirmed numbers.
Cost is 15 euro for the first hour and 10 for the second. You can play for 1 or 2 hours. Balls are provided and the organizer will usually have a few starter rackets that can be used for 2 euro per hour (but if you brake the racket you will be expected to replace it or pay 40euro for it).
Types of activity focused on:
Week 1-
Forehand Top-spin: proper technique introduction, static and dynamic balance
Drills - dynamic basket feeding exercises, related to the stroke.
Week 2-
Backhand Top-spin: proper technique introduction, grip change, static and dynamic balance
Drills - dynamic basket feeding exercises, related to the stroke
Week 3-
Volleys : grips , techniques, footwork
Identifying and use the right swing and footwork technique, to attack a short ball and finish the point with a volley
Drills - dynamic basket feeding exercises related to the strokes
Week 4-
Ground strokes direction (how to hit cross court and down the line shots ), recovery (how to save energy and recover efficiently )
How to build a point
Serve: grips, balance and mechanics
Week 5-
Serve and Return: review of the serve technique
return techniques (positioning, preparation)
employing the right strategies when starting a point
Points playing
Week 6 -
Tactics and strategies: how to start,
build and create the opportunity (direction and consistency)
how finish a point (attack and volley)

Access/Directions
Walk down the avenue (Entrance for DCU on Ballymun road), you will see a sign for DCU Tennis Club walk through the gates, 50 yards down the path will take you along side of the courts which you will see on your left. You will see a door at the end knock or ring the bell for access.
Parking
Option 1 8-10 mins walk, after the tennis access gate, along the avenue (DCU entrance on Ballymun road) is a car-park that can be used for visitors.
Option 2 Across the road from the entrants to DCU on Ballymun road is a row of shops. You can park in this carpark.

Note:
Please arrive promptly (10-15 mins before session starts) Changing rooms and showers are available.
Tennis appropriate clothes to be wore on court.
No black soled shoes will be allowed on court.
As detailed in the notes issued to Dublin Tennis Members. If RSVPs are not sufficient the session will be canceled. Please check the site before 3 hours before an session starts as we may have insufficient attendees or court access issues.
If we do not have sufficient attendees 3 days before the session there will not be a professional coach present. If we do, I will attempt to schedule a coach.
