This group is for anyone who wants to have fun playing tennis, meeting new tennis players, and simply enjoying the sport.
Tennis is not a complicated game: it is a competitive game played with 2 or 4 players with racquets and balls on a court painted with fancy lines and a net across the middle. The players arrange themselves appropriately and hit the balls back and forth according to protocol, score points to make a game, and more than six games with one side two games ahead makes a set. It doesn’t work with 3 players, and even less with 1. Fun, to intermediate and advanced players with a killer instinct is winning a set. Winning makes us happy; losing, not so much. So when a person is ‘missing’ it really spoils ALL THE FUN, and makes it complicated. For beginners, fun is often just having a hitting partner and sending the ball where you want it to go not where it wants to go!! For the above reasons, the organizers go to considerable lengths to arrange even numbers and to round up a replacement player when needed. Therefore, those people who cancel out of a game on game day are not appreciated and make other players and the organizers really grumpy! We understand that sometimes things beyond our control happen (like the Prime Minister demands that you visit him in Ottawa, or your private jet drops you in Tuktoyaktuk instead of Calgary), but please don’t complicate tennis or be that person who has a lot of emergencies. Also - players do not need to have meteorological skills or wonder if they are going to have to play in the rain --- if adverse weather conditions happen please contact the organizer and share your knowledge. The organizer will officially cancel the game if necessary, so any player opting out of the game on game day before the game is cancelled is choosing to complicate the game and the life of everyone concerned. Not kewl!! Those players who make it complicated may find that they are excluded from certain events, or that other players don’t want to play with them. We insist on it remaining UNCOMPLICATED!
So, to recap: your organizers are volunteers working to give you free fun! Please don’t make it more difficult or we will bring back the cat-O-nine tails, public flogging, or the stocks ;) You don’t change courts unless approved, you don’t change your RSVP on game day (without discussing it with an organizer), and you don’t quit a game because there are uneven numbers or because you think it is going to rain. If you do these things, you will be given a “no-show” so organizers can see how naughty you have been. If you collect lots of “no-shows” they may exclude you from certain events!! (Ouch!)
Oh yes, one more thing . . . . organizers will not tolerate lippy, argumentative, disrespectful, rude or arrogant people in the group! So, play nice with the organizers, and they will play nice with you!

“So join in, play nice, be considerate of others, and have fun doing it.”
