THIS GROUP WILL CLOSE 10/01/15 UNLESS IT RECEIVES A NEW ORGANIZER.
This group does not have an official organizer anymore. The former organizer is keeping the group open until October 01, 2015 when the paid "lease" runs out, or until the last posted camping trip has ended. The former organizer is not available to answer questions or post new outings. If anyone is interested in becoming the new organizer of this site, please join and contact the former organizer.
We're looking for single, divorced or widowed men and women, 40 years and older, who may not be as physically active as they once were, but still enjoy tent camping and socializing around a smoky campfire. If the younger, more rigorous outdoor groups wear you out, try us.
Our members enjoy the primitive, quiet nature of camping in tents. Our trips are local, stationed within NYS parks and less than a week in duration. They include weekday and weekend trips.
Our group has a variety of interests including calm-water kayaking/boating, exploring, cooking, wine tastings, fishing, light hiking, reading and playing cards and board games. You'll never hear one of us shout "Grab your gear, everybody! We're climbing that mountain today!"If you're seeking that level of physical exhaustion from an outdoor group, keeeeep looking.
You'll need your own tent, small camper or pop-up, some basic equipment, a sense of humor and the ability to entertain yourself.
Though our target base is the older, less physically active camper, we are not a group for the handicapped or those with serious health problems. You must be physically able to set up your own campsite, cook for yourself and walk freely about the campgrounds without the use of a breathing or walking aid.
Whether you're an experienced camper or a novice, we'd love to have you join us.If you're married to a spouse who refuses to camp, you can join too. No children. No motor homes or RVs.No pets.
Newbies to tent camping can click on Message Board under the Discussions tab at the top of any page. I have included a list of very basic camping equipment you will need to get you started.
