A quality knife or multi-tool is one of the handiest things you can carry in your pack. It’ll help you spread peanut butter, carve a tent stake, or fillet a rainbow trout. But you have to pick the right tool for the job. This introductory workshop will cover types of knives and their uses in the outdoors, as well as maintenance and sharpening techniques.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: As of May 2014 there is a lawsuit that challenges the New York City's practice of treating common folding knives as prohibited "gravity knives," then arresting and prosecuting law-abiding knife owners and intimidating retailers into paying large cash "sanctions" to avoid prosecution. Under the City's vague and subjective approach, it is impossible to know whether any particular knife will be treated as legal or prohibited.

Does the clip have to be visible? I usually carry my leatherman on my hip but it's in a case

It is advisable NOT to have the clip visible. A multi-tool is usually not an issue. However why take a chance?
