Central Texas offers a great diversity in wild edible plants and food sources that are right in front of us! Foraging wild foods and plants is a lost art that many want to re-connect with. Medicinal and edible plants grow in abundance in many areas of Texas, regardless of the climate -- its just knowing where to look and what to forage for.
Foraging food is an ancient skill - one could say the oldest. Yet not many people today know how to do it. A small number of people have kept this vital skill-set from vanishing and it is a good thing. There are many reasons to seek this skill in the modern world. Beyond survival in a SHTF scenario, the naturally growing foods are more nutritious and the very act of gathering fosters a connection to our past and helps ground us.
This group encompasses not only foraging and plant-related interests such as herbology, wilderness medicine, edible wild foods, raw foods and primitive living (survival skills), but it also opens the door for those interested in outdoor education topics such as primitive archery, health, fitness and wellness, self-sustainability skills, urban AND primitive survival skills, homesteading and all types of preparedness.
We encourage those with an eco-minded vision to join and participate!
