Just Bead It! Mardi Gras TFR Style

Join us again for great fun on the Seawall watching the Mardi Gras Parade. Bring your families and join in the fun.

If you want to park at our place (potty break) and carpool, just email me.  We will leave our house about 3:30.

We will meet in the lobby at the Hotel Galvez at 4:00 and walk to eat about 4:15. Park in the back or on surrounding streets, but watch for tow zones and do not park on the Seawall. There is a bar in the lobby and clean bathrooms. Within walking distance are Miller's, Fish Place, Bubba Gump's and Saltgrass.  Nobody is taking reservations at this time. The hotel restaurant opens at 5:00.  Miller's is probably the best bet for getting seating, but who knows?

For late arrivers, we usually watch the parade from the Seawall just down from the hotel.

Bring your cooler, chairs, blankets whatever.  Just remember that there is no glass on the Seawall.

6:30pm- Knights of Momus Grand Night Parade - Mardi Gras! Galveston’s largest parade will feature floats, marching bands, dignitaries, bead throwing and more. Parade starts at 19th and Seawall Boulevard, turns right on 25th Street and continues to Mechanic Street. Right on Mechanic Street to 21st Street, left on 21st to The Strand. Left on Strand and end at the Railroad Museum.

We usually go back to the hotel for a bit while they open the streets back up.

For those wanting to go down to the Strand, you might condsider going earlier in the day.  There are parades, bands, beads and tons of fun!  Check out the website for times and charges. There is a charge to enter the Strand area and parking is at a premium.  It is possible to watch the parade on the Seawall, drive to the Strand area and watch it again.

Had a great time with our TFR friends. Bubba Gump's was great, the seawall was crowded but had a lot of fun.

Sure was fun hanging out with all of you. Wow was it crowded! I'm glad the little TFRs got up close enough to see the parade. Gonna have to come up with a new plan for next year.

Had a great time! Bubba Gump's was really good. Didn't catch many beads. It was a bit more crowded this year and the wind was blowing the beads back toward the floats. Thanks Dawn for setting up this event.

Can't park behind the hotel, street blocked off.

If I can arrange it througha contact, is everybody ok with Bubba Gumps? Traffic is already bad heading into Galveston, so please be careful. There was a terrible wreck last night that backed up traffic to the Beltway.

Weather is looking good. High72, low 64. Not much of a chance of rain until after midnight. Of course, we all know this could change.

$15 bucks to get on the strand & big crowds? I will use that $ to fill the cooler with "refreshments". On second thought the seawall sounds just fine, we always have a good time there!

In the past this has been my thinking about this event-I try to time it where we get there early enough to choose our spot on the Seawall to watch the parade. This means some standing around, but the crowds/parking get really bad. I've always picked the Seawall near Hotel Galvez to watch the parade because it's not as crowed and more "family friendly." We've gone to a restaurant right in that area so that we can park early, eat and get a spot.
There is some interest in going down to the Strand this year to watch the parade. My suggestion for that would be that we pick a spot and time to meet down there (ie-the corner of 24th and Mechanic at 4:30) and find a place to hang out. Eating and parking would be on your own time. I have no idea what time you would have to get down there to park as it has been many years since I went down there. It is an all day event on the Strand with bands, booze and adventure!
I'm asking for feedback from you guys so I can plan. Thanks!

My personal preference would be to stay on the seawall. The Strand will be a zoo, parking will probably be next to impossible and very expensive. That's my two cents for what it's worth.

BTW- you can buy tickets to go on the Strand online now for $15. They are more at the booths, but I am not sure how much. Here is the link so you can explore the options: www.mardigrasgalveston.com

      oh...more room for shopping! =)

Kristie- that's up to you guys, but I wouldn't take a bike down there. It's not like Lone Star where we are all there forthe same reason-motorcycles. I'd be afraid to leave a bike parked and walk away form it if you go down to the Strand area. It is wild!
