An introduction to the North American herbal medicine tradition and General Definitions. How does aromatherapy differ from herbal medicine? What is a flower essence? This class sets the stage historically and now for where herbalism came from and where it is going.
Not only will you be introduced to the world of herbcrafting, but included is a little known history of herbalism in the U.S. and North America, and how we came to where we are currently as herbalists.
This class will answer other questions like, just what does an herbalist do and not do? What does one mean when they say Herbal Energetics, and how are herbs used differently in Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda compared to our Western use.
We will also cover some basic information on how to choose an herbalist and how to study and learn more.

This class may be taken as part of a 5 part Foundational Series. Once you complete this series you are able to take more advanced offerings at the Wildflower School like Bioregional Medicine Plant Identification and Field Intensives, Body Systems and First Aid, and Clinical Paths. This Foundational Series takes the place of the first intensive weekend of the Community Herbalist Certificate Program offered 1X a year in January-June. By fulfilling this intensive, you will be able to take the rest of the program for a reduced rate.
