Friday morning climbing (where?)

Some people wanted to climb this Friday. Just making it more official.

Location preference? I have harness and shoes, no other gear, so whoever has the gear gets to pick the location. I will lead 5.11, and am happy to give belays.

There's the Tuesday meetup. Quin, I decided to wait for confirmation before leaving, because it was a lot of weight to bring on Tue bike (cold day, too) to end up out there alone. Such is life.

Hey Kyle, sorry I didn't get a chance to check this before I went out there. I got there around 11:30 so I dunno if I missed you or not, but either way, Gus Fruh is pretty cool, let's try and get this together again soon.

Hey, so is there a location and rope yet?

    February 21, 2013

    • Ashley

Not sure about rope. Location is at Gus's

And yes, there's a rope. Come on out!

So I'll bring the rope, then. Crashpad is a maybe, depends on if I decide to / am able to borrow a friend's car.

I probably won't be arriving until a little late, as well. Show up when you like, but I'm tempted to actually change the time to 10:30/11am.

I've never been to Gus, but that'd be interesting. However, unless Quin has a rope, we're ropeless at the moment. I do have a friend with a crash pad we could borrow for McKinney, but either I'd have to borrow a car or catch a ride from someone, because I ride a motorcycle. Actually, I might have a rope. It's old, but I think it's still good. It's a friend's... He just hasn't climbed much in the last several years. As long as it was stored indoors, rope shouldn't go bad when it's not being used, right? I could probably google checking rope for damage and check it out.

If I were a rope manufacturer trying to avoid litigation I'd say no way, but personally I have no issue climbing on older ropes as long as the falls aren't that big and it's not running over sharp corners. give it a feel, and if there are any sections of the rope that feel mushy, then the core is probably shot there. Should still be okay for TR, but if it's really soft it's probably a bad idea for leading. I dunno, it's your call.

I've got everything, but can't climb on Friday morning =(. So I'm no use to you! But I can tell you that climbing at Gus is rad. There's also a boulder opposite the wall called The Whipping Post. Great V3 traverse, really great V5 from under the roof (if you can climb it, I can't!), but also some V0-V2's. The routes on the Fern Bar wall are pretty solid, as well as the Thumb wall. Also great cave to boulder in.

Anybody have a preference on location? Just seismic, or maybe Reimer's or McKinney or something?

I'm a newbie, only have climbed near Gus. Have harness and shoes but no rope.

I'd prefer seismic, but if I can bum a ride from someone, Reimer's is good too. Is there any sport at McKinney, or is it all bouldering?
