Travis County Parks has asked Central Texas Mountaineers to spread the word on three issues that are occurring at the Reimers Ranch county park.
1. Parking or driving off the paved surfaces. All park visitors are required to leave their vehicles in designated parking areas and drive only on the open paved surfaces. Some additional parking has been mowed at the North Shore to accommodate busy days. Otherwise permission must be requested of park staff before taking a vehicle off the pavement. Please obey all traffic cones, barricades , signs and directions from park staff .
2. Dogs off leash. This has been long been a problem at this park. Park staff are walking through the park and taking names so that repeat violators can be banned from the park. Either keep your dog leashed or leave it at home.
3. Return to your car and leave the park on time. The time change and the time of year make sunset very early. There is a sign at the fee booth that states when you have to be out of the park. Please manage your time to comply with this rule. The problem for parks staff is that when they see cars in the parking lots after dark, they don’t know if they need to mount a full search and rescue, or is it just a late climber?
They are asking for responsible use of the park, they are taking note of violators and are prepared to ban violators from the park.
On Saturday, they banned a climber for 30 days and they are considering indefinite suspensions for repeat violators.
If you have any questions about park rules look here https://parks.travisc... and if you have any other concerns, feel free to contact me or other CTM officers privately.
And thank you for helping protect climbers' relationships with Parks staff.
