Camping, hiking, biking, & paddling in McKinney Falls State Park

Join us for a weekend of camping at McKinney Falls State Park, near Austin.   The park is located 13 miles southeast of the State Capitol in Austin off of U.S. Highway 183. Take  McKinney Falls Parkway from U.S. 183 South straight to the park entrance.  There are several hiking and biking trails in the park.  You can also swim in Onion Creek so bring your suit!  With this park's close proximity to Austin, we can check out the Brazilian Free-Tail Bats as they emerge from the South Congress Bridge in the evening.  We can also venture into the City for dinner and night-time activities. On Sunday we can go into Austin and paddle on Lady Bird Lake.  Several outfitters rent kayaks if you don't own your own.  The club has reserved two, 20/30 amp Electric and Water sites.

What do I do when I get to the camp ground. What do I tell them, and what do I pay? This is my first event.

Ann, the sites are in the name of Brian jones. They will likely ask you to pay for the second night which will be $20.00. We will split the cost between campers. Please text or post on meetup the site number. If there is room we are going to try to stay at one site. My number is [masked]

I'm leaning more toward going - will have Friday and Saturday off so will probably be up there early afternoon if I go. Waiting to see what work and weather day.

We have our camping gear all packed up and ready to go. If we do get the thunderstorms Friday we will be in a hotel near for the night and come the next day. We are looking forward to this.

Can everyone confirm that they will be attending this weekend? We are trying to derermine how many campsites we need. Also, I won't be leaving DFW until around 4 on Friday so I probably won't get to the campground until 7.

Touring the nearby state capital is always impressive. And, strange as it may seem, so is touring the state cemetary. You can see memorials and the gravesites of famous Texans like Sam Houston, Stephen Austin, Tom Landry, and Barbara Jordan. It is definitely a walk through history.

Reservations have been made at the park for 2 water/electric sites. They are under Carla's name. When you get to the park they will want the other $40 for the reservation. (Sites are $20 each per night for a total of $80, with $40 being prepaid.)

It would be great to have the club kayaks. Paddling on Town Lake would be really amazing. As long as there is somebody who can pick them up, take them to Austin and back, it can happen. And the boat rental that we charge members usually pays for most or all of the gas that the two person uses.

Carla, is it possible to get the clubs kayaks along on this trip?

That is a Brian question. I can only take one on my car

Keep my updated on this one. My daughter and I both love waterfalls. She would be so thrilled to do this. I don't know if I would be able to do the driving for both this and the big cook out though. We might have to pass on that one for this one. To awesome to pass up. I know when I show her the pictures she will beg me to take her.
