Camping and Music in Austin, McKinney Falls SP

Come camp just outside of Austin at McKinney Falls SP. We will bike at the park and on some of the urban Austin trails. Then visit a music venue on Saturday evening. And maybe put our feet in the creek.

.

Here is the cost for the weekend:

Members who have not yet paid their dues, $7 per person, per night
Members who have paid their due, no cost for Friday and the cost for Saturday equally divided among attendeed.

We only have 2 campsites and could not get another, so I closed the event at 11 signed-up and opened the waiting list. If you realize you can't go, please change your RSVP so somebody else can take your spot. - Thanks!

Hiking, biking, fall watching, sitting around the fire, and observing keeping Austin weird. These are a few of my favorite things. We did it all. Thanks for the great weekend...

      more recommendations:

The Continental Club on South Congress
      The Nutty Brown Cafe
      Patsy's Cafe
The Saxon Pub & Continental Club are your mor traditional bar clubs and get VERY crowded. Anton's down Town is another very famous music venue clubs. The Nutty Brown & Patsy's are restaurants usually more tables less crowded but still very popular music venues. The Nutty Brown Music venue is outside and has a dance floor. Look on line to see what bands are playing.

Hi, All! Was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing some SUP (stand-up-paddling) on Town Lake (real close to the State Park) on Saturday! There is a rental place (Paddle Zen) real close to the State Park (only 1.5 miles).

There is even a Groupon that Groupon Austin is running...so can get to paddle inexpensively!

Discliamer...I am in no way getting paid, comped, or otherwise compensated for posting this link.

Just want to do some paddling on Saturday... and thought some of you may be interested since the location is so close to the park!

    • Katrina Coker

I would love to go to the lake with you, but I am a no go on the cold water, too.

I was able to get a stove and cooking gear so I'm set on food items. I'll grab a bundle of wood. Does anyone play board games such as Scrabble or Skipbo? I can bring something for anyone who wants to play while were not busy doing other things.

    March 2

    • Matt

I planned on bringing the logo game. It's pretty good around a campfire

What to eat depends on what you like. Some people do bring Coleman type stoves and cook up gourmet meals. Some bring backpacking stoves and boil water for simpler food prep. We will have a campfire for heat and cooking some things. I will bring some firewood. If someone else can bring some wood also we can keep a fire going. Bring a comfortable camp chair. Since this is my first outing this year I will probably stay at the campground Sat night and not venture into town for the entertainment.

I'm picking up a decent travel pack for the top of my Escape and I plan on bringing my mountain bike down, too. I have the carrier for the back of my car and it will fit 2 more bikes on it. I emailed a couple of the folks wanting to carpool, but anyone coming from the Dallas area is welcome to ride with me. I should have plenty of room for a total of 4 people with me (unless everyone plans on bringing their bikes). Send me an email or Facebook message if you want to travel down together. Thanks!

I was planning on bringing my dog so I will have to pass on the going out for music. I did want to know what type of food I needed to bring with me. I haven't been camping for about 4 years and my ex was always the one that did the packing for food items. I don't know if I bring premade food or can we cook some items there?

    March 1

  • Don Taylor

Carpooling to Austin would be good. Not sure of music venues available to us. I'll check in the next week.

    February 28

  • Jesus Marquez

Any suggestions for Sat nite in Austin??? Plenty of choices to pick from unless a particular joint it's been selected already? BTW are we carpooling to the city from the park? Leaving most camping equip at the park?? Or we're all taking our vehicles to Austin? Bike racks in the back and all??

Let's plan on eating dinner on Saturday night somewhere in Austin. Other than that, you are welcome to bring anythign else to cook and eat or not-cook and eat.

Hey guys, getting really excited about the trip. Questions are we bringing food, coolers, etc I'm thinking eat dinner on the way to the park on Fri night, need to bring Bfast on Sat/Sun AM lunch/dinner we can eat in Austin maybe? please comment. Got some fire wood also. I guess no interest on the extra camping equipment and bike. No answer on that. Thanks.

I was planning on bringing stuff easy to cook on a campfire and sandwiches. I will have my own tent and will be bringing my bike with me. I didn't think I would be RSVP'ing a friend, but I might have one extra coming down with me and staying in my tent with me. Hopefully a non-isssue.

Working at SXSW that week may limit what parts of fun (camping, hike, music) I can attend at the park. Will see.

    February 14

  • Jesus Marquez

Same idea sleeping in the car that would save space for more tent campers! How many tents can we pitch per camp site? Brian?

    February 14

  • Connie Johnson Callan

Just wondering if one wanted to sleep in their suburban rather than pitching a tent, is the parking close to the tent area?

    February 14

  • Jesus Marquez

I've got a girls bike and my bike will bring those and also got extra camping equip tent etc so other members feel free to borrow as needed (Cara). The girls bike was given to me so not new but works fine!
