Paddle the Illinois River in Oklahoma

Come paddle the river with us just east of Muskogee OK on the beautiful Illinois River. This stretch of water has been designated as a national scenic waterway. Camping at Eagle Bluff Resort if you don't own a personal kayak or just want to leave your kayak at home, we will rent canoes from the outfitter. He will carry us up the river and meet us at the take-out place.

We will paddle (float) for several hours on Saturday, so be sure to bring a lunch and water bottle. On Sunday, we will take a short paddle (2-3 hours) in the morning before departing.

If you register and pay your money by May 10, the price is only $20 for both camping AND canoe rental. This is a great deal! To reserve your spot, call Eagle Bluff at[masked] and give them our Express Code[masked] for the special pricing. At least 7 people must register by May 10 for us to get this deal. So if you are going with us, please register today! Thank you.

Food! Food is good. For Saturday lunch, we will pull out of the river onto a nice riverbank and eat lunch, so be sure to bring lunch and a water bottle on the river. You can always put them in a plastic trash bag to keep the water out.

For Saturday night dinner, we usually eat pot luck style. So if you would like to join us in the luck of the pot, bring a couple of items to share and we will have a feast.

For any other meals, you are on your own. Bring what suits you. We will plan to have a campfire on Friday and Saturday evenings for marshmellows, smores, etc.

We are camping in sites 230-232.

Will anyone be paddling sunday morning before heading back?

    May 15, 2013

    • Kristin

So how would this work? For those renting a kayak like me, would we just keep these overnight then turn them in sunday before we leave? Or will it just be those who brought their own kayaks that will be paddling again on sunday?

      May 16, 2013

    • Brian J.

I can't stay and paddle on Sunday, but you certainly can. Contact the resort for prices for a Sunday paddle.

Hey, this being my first trip and all -- what time are we paddling Saturday morning? I'm not renting a boat this trip (my friend just got a new one and can't leave home without it) so have to do some shuttle work Saturday morning and don't want you to leave without us! The resort will shuttle people but not boats.

    May 13, 2013

    • Cindi T.

I think my friend's truck is currently configured to only carry 2 kayaks. Are you just looking to catch a ride to the put-in point?

      May 14, 2013

    • Paul

I confirmed they wont shuttle boats. Kinda weird "liability reason". Oh well, Im trying to see what kind of kayaks they have to rent. may just do that as it seems less of a hassle.

      May 15, 2013

A little green with envy - y'all have a great time up there. Unfortunately I can't make this trip. Safe travels en route and on the river. Take pictures :-)

I'll be leaving the metro area around noon on Friday.

    May 14, 2013

  • Brian J.

I would guess we would try to hit the water between 9 and 10, kind of depends on how quickly people move in the morning. There will be plenty of time to run your boats up and drive back to catach the shuttle. We won't leave you listening to banjo music.

Is everybody typically on their own Friday night for dinner?

The river level changes rapidly due to local rainfall -- we can check later next week on the river.

    May 10, 2013

  • Kristin

how late is the resort open? I just started a new job and probably won't be able to get any time off on the 17th. So I'd have to leave from work at 5. It would probably take me 3-4 hours to get up there.

    May 5, 2013

    • Paul

They told me the gate is open till 11 pm

      May 10, 2013

  • Carla J.

Has anyone checked water levels? Dallas Down River cancelled their trip this weekend due to flooding on the Illinois.

    May 10, 2013

  • John S.

John & I are bringing our pop up camper, so we'll be staying in a Water & Electric site. They said it's not far from your campsites.

We are both taking Friday off, so we can get there in plenty of time to meet everyone!

    Looking forward to it!!! Elisabeth

FYI. They do have grills at the office for a deposit of $20. And can rent kayaks for an extra $5. Sweet!

Good question. The guy who owns the campsite also is a canoe outfitter, so if you don't own a personal kayak or just want to leave your kayak at home, we will rent canoes from the outfitter. He will carry us up the river and meet us at the take-out place.

We will paddle (float) for several hours on Saturday, so be sure to bring a lunch and water bottle. On Sunday, we will take a short paddle (2-3 hours) in the morning before departing.
