Camping at Dinosaur Valley State Park

Camp, eat, hike, bike and swim at DVSP.

Meals are "bring your own". The club will buy firewood for sitting around and making smores. We usually have a "pot luck" on Saturday evening so bring something (or two somethings) to share for dinner.

Costs for camping with the club are:
• For those who have paid their dues, Friday night is always free and an equal share of Saturday's cost. So if the two sites cost $50 and 7 people stay the cost is $7 each. Cost for Saturday will never exceed $10 no matter how many people stay.
• For those who have not paid their dues, cost is $8 for Friday night and an equal share for Saturday.
• Remember, unless you have a yearly state park pass, you will also have to pay a day use fee for coming in the park, usually $5-$7 dollars.
• Some parks charge an "excess vehicle fee" of usually $3 per vehicle if we have more than 2 or 3 per campsite (and we often do).
• Does anybody remember when camping was cheap?! I do.

.

As of Thursday, Aug 29 and 5:20 pm, we still have spots available. If you want to join us, please pay the $10 non-refundable deposit via PayPal at https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=7ULHQ62QVVTQN and sign up for the event.

Even with the little bit of rain when we arrived, it was a great trip. The weather broke about an hour later and was beautiful the rest of the weekend.

The others there were really nice and it was a laid back trip.

Good time. Dinosaur valley park was good but pretty busy and people/kids there were loud which made it hard to sleep.

Well I am out on it. I am having car trouble and won't get to work on it until Sat mid day, so don't look for me on this one.

Anyone know if there is a fire ban or how wet the ground got? I haven't been able to reach ranger station to ask those questions.

I know the rest of the weekend is looking to be really nice there, so still planning on leaving soon to head that way.

[masked] then press option 4. I spoke to an employee there and she said the fire ban won't be lifted even with the rain. Bummer! As far as the rain goes, it's supposed to rain tonight (nothing too severe though) but the rest of the weekend will be gorgeous.

Yeah, it about has to rain for a week straight for them to lift a burn ban. It is a county thing, not a park thing, and ranchers and volunteer FDs take a really dim view of brush fires.

Kib and I have a shelter setup at site 5. We are nice and dry! Don't be afraid to come out tonight folks.

No, not muddy. The ground was so dry and hard the water is just running off, even on the trails so far.

You might consider attending the nearby Glen Rose Passion Play Friday or Saturday night. This is a powerful performance! After many years they are shutting it down-this will be the last season which ends October 28th.

I have some fire wood a I can bring. Are there actual dinosaur fossil there on display or unearthed etc?? That would be interesting for my kids. Any other activities besides the ones listed above?

There are dinosaur footprints they can stand and sit in. There is a playground. My kids love it there, been several times and they always ask to go back. There are also some large dinosaur displays at the entrance.

They are down in the Paluxy, but it varies across teh years to what you can see due to flooding effects. There is also a museum of sorts indoors near the park office and I think admission to that is covered by the park day use fee. Its one of the more fun parks. I first went with my Dad when I was 13, and that has been quite some time back.
Presently there is a burn ban down there, but it could change in 3 wks time.
