We are joining up with the Korean Waves meetup trip, to a place they went in 2013. Several Thai people went on that trip, and also Thai food was cooked (and eaten)!
You can see photos of prior trips below and in the links here for the 2013 trip, 2012 trip and 2011 trip). RSVP "Yes" if you're interested (pay if it is not full yet) - the house last season was full (Sold out)!
You don't have to ski or snowboard - some people just enjoy going for the experience in the mountains. And some people may only go for 2 nights (Monday is a holiday for many, but not all). It's up to you.
Cost details shared with attendees. Price is for 3 nights (more information below). You can pay cash at an event, with a discount (because PayPal takes a fee if done online). Contact the organizer with any questions!
Winter Mountain Snow Weekend 2014!
Activities! Try these from past trips:
Snow Tubing - Mountain Coaster - Canopy Tour - Ice Skating
Snow Shoeing - NordicCenter - Snowmobiling - Games
* Some room-sharing may be needed, to keep the costs down. You may have the option to pay extra to get your own room - limited to initial RSVP. Food is not included, but any extra money will be used for supplies. Once you pay, if you cannot attend, someone else can go in your place (same sex substitution may be required).
Space is limited, so RSVP & pay soon! :)
A get-away weekend event in the mountains at Deep Creek Lake, sharing with old or new friends, with a chance to ski at Wisp, shop, snowboard, swim, and enjoy nature, while also enjoying a high quality international food experience.
This event is a 3-day (holiday) weekend event - Friday to Monday afternoon. (We may be able to also add a night if enough people want to stay).
Where? The house(s) will be reserved based on the number of people who pay in advance!
First house for 22 people has been booked.
Cost? We are trying to keep it low, and letting people bring their own food (some items will be purchased with the money paid towards the room, and people generally share cooking activities).
If you pay now, you hold your spot. Most rooms are 2 person rooms. There may be some single beds (day beds, etc.). The house(s) will be set up so room-sharing will be same-sex, or couples. You can buy twice (double $$) to get a private room.
The cost may go up or down depending on the house pricing, and you're expected to pay any extra.
Note: the Jan 2012 trip had 4+ inches of fresh snow, and due to road conditions, required walking in the sometimes-slippery snow up a hill to the house. The 2013 trip had double... about 8 inches of snow by the day after we arrived. We don't expect a repeat (snow may not arrive), but are giving a heads-up that some physical fitness may be needed.
The trip is a cultural group event, including:
International food & sometimes cooking demo/lessons from group members.
Language exchange - practice with others attending.
Karaoke - English, Thai, Korean, Chinese, etc.
What the price doesn't include:
* ski passes
* equipment rental
* water park or other passes
* food or beverages
* mints on your pillow at night
We expect to bring games, etc. for the group to do together (voluntary), or to go to a local place to hang out.
There will be activities available (added cost) such as: skiing, snowboarding, shopping, sledding, skating, spa.
1. What if I don't know if I can go?
This event is expected to sell out, and we can't hold spots.
If there is a wait list, then you can probably release your ticket and get a refund. No refund is promised.
But it is likely, since we are expecting more demand than beds.
2. What if I wanna crash out on the couch... is that cheaper or even free?
We're calling this "STANDBY RSVP" -
This may be allowed on a limited basis, depending on the situation.
3. I heard you need a car to go everywhere... how does that work?
We will deal with it, although the house was close enough that last time some people decided to walk to the ski area, and to some shops/restaurants nearby. Mobile phone coverage may be weak or have dead zones, so we will work hard to make sure people are able to get around.
4. I need a ride! (or) I can drive!
We will need some drivers. Drivers get special treatment:
Gas money (if we price that into the cost), toll money if needed, and smiles.
If you need a ride, then say where you are coming from.
We will suggest a pick-up location.
People will go at different times, and even different days.
Work out who you can ride with.
Each trip we had more than enough drivers, so if you don't have a car you can probably find a ride. Parking may be limited so ride-sharing is encouraged!
5. I want to share a room with my friend - can I do that?
Yes. Include it in your RSVP, and it will be confirmed based on availability.
6. I want a vegetarian menu - is that part of the plan?
Yes. Help us with shopping suggestions. There will be meat-based dishes, and vegetarian/vegan options.
7. I don't ski - I don't snowboard - and I don't ice skate.
Is this trip for me?
Could be, should be... it's a weekend retreat, at a place that has skiing and other winter activities. But people go in the summer and don't ski, so probably it will be awesome just getting away to escape the regular life. Every year there are people who have gone and not skied, and had fun.
8. I'm only staying one night, etc. - can I pay less?
Nope. You can get someone to take your other nights, if you work out an arrangement.
9. What if I'm loud, obnoxious, and yelling at 2am?
You may be asked to leave. Seriously. This is a resort area, and other units are nearby.
10. What? I wanna stay up late and talk and play game and stuff...!
Okay. The plan is that one area or section will be the "late night" one, with the social area.
It will depend on the people there, but to be fair to everyone, expect that it should be quiet by midnight (and earlier for outdoor noise). We have not had any problem with the in the past trips.
(calm TV watching is okay, loud music & dancing is not).
11. Is there TV? Internet?
Yes, there is TV, and if possible the channels will be listed. Internet should be available all over the house.
12. Do I have to stay in the same place with the group?
Nope. You can book your own hotel in the area and join us that way. It is also a way for people who don't RSVP early to also attend.
