Re: [The-9-12-Project-in-Mentor-OH] Fw: Senator Portman

I agree, it is a full time job, but I have to believe that it's worth it. It is my humble opinion that if we concerned citizens, who have deduced with facts and reason that our government is making a huge mistake with its fiscal polices that are creating a nation of slothfulness that yet expects great entitlements, and pleasure, can reach out to the young, and have them stand with us demanding greater responsibility from all, then the powers that be will be shaken.

It is true, that young people are so busy working and taking care of their families that they don't usually have the time to research what is true and what is false/propaganda. They turn on the evening news and hear how many car accidents there were, what robberies took place (along with the evils of guns), storms across our nation (and the ill effects of global warming), how the movie stars are doing, etc., but, NOTHING about the wars, or how our government is getting away with fast and furious, or what the Fed is doing (the FED elected in its meeting this week to stay the course on QE3, buying $85 billion in assets each month, and indicated that it has no intention of stopping in the near future), etc. It is good that you keep you children informed and we all must do that. We need to work hard at keeping this administration from destroying our childrens' and our grand childrens' future...and that is turning into a FULL TIME job *:( sad. It is scary to think that there will be mid-term elections next year, and Obama is working toward getting Democrats into the House of Reps and keeping the Senate. If that happens, we are doomed for sure. We need to mobilize NOW and find true Constitutional individuals to support in the next election!

I raised my children to be responsible productive citizens and now they are so busy being responsible, each working more than one job, they hardly have time to become involved and have resigned themselves to the fact that they will not have the programs to care for them when they become my age. They do not think that Social Security and Medicare will be there. But they don't complain about paying for what the "old folks" have now even though few "old folks" are willing to sacrifice a dime from their Social Security or Medicare, because they earned it. Really?

Those approaching retirement or in it, lived through an era where the tax rate increased from about 6.15% total Social Security and Medicare (employee and employer when I graduated in 1966) to the 15.3% total today, and the benefits increases markedly. I didn't pay the full rate that is being paid by the young now just starting out, but the young hear the talk, they are facing less benefits and even more tax. BIG GOVERNMENT!

But my children are listening to me, because I say such true things, and do not forget that many my age are captured into one of the traps of Liberal Big Government Groupism, the elderly, who will not join in with the sacrifice. There should only be one group that matters, the American People of any age, race, creed, or gender. All should be evaluating their circumstance and position in life to determine where we can dismantle this monstrosity of a government, without collapsing it, to bring it to an optimized cost effective governing body that secures the Blessing of Liberty not only to ourselves, but also to our Posterity. That was among the Founders promises.

It is true, that they wants Special Rights, the right to break our laws and then, demand special treatment after doing so. Unfortunately, we allow our representatives to continue to ignore/enforce our laws...and we have a President who does the same.

The deception, the lie, is that in truth they have their civil rights. What they wish are special rights for each group that those pushing Bigger Government have identified in the interest of creating a divided America that they control.

The way to find out just what they are being told and just what their organization is promoting, especially if they are promoting the DREAM ACT, open borders/amnesty, chain migration, etc., is for us to go to their convention and listen in to what they are saying and hearing just what our Senator is telling them.
I've been told by a neighbor, who is VERY involved in Illegal Immigration issues, that Senator Portman will not meet with their grassroots organization, but, here he is, speaking at this Latino convention.
We are loosing our country, bit by bit/ We are giving our country over to special interest groups and ILLEGALS who are DEMANDING their civil rights.

Cecelia,

The key words are legal and illegal. If these are legal aliens, then we may not have much of a complaint. If they're paying taxes then what can we say? They are eligible for drivers licenses.

There might be a racist issue here but do you want to play it?  But then again, what's the difference between their organization and the League of Women voters? Sexist? Why only Latinos being helped? What are they going to tell Latinos about Obama Care, Medicaid Extension, etc.?

All the above is predicated upon legal and illegal: which do we have here?

I'm against illegal immigration but the government doesn't seem to be.

Joe S.

We need to have our current laws enforced!! We are a country that is being controlled by lobbyists and, by individuals who are here illegally. We the CITIZENS of this country should have a say in what is going to affect OUR country.

There will be a luncheon following the sessions. Senator Rob Portman will be our keynote speaker. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to learn about LULAC, the oldest and largest Latino organization in the United States.

LULAC is an amnesty/open border organization.

While the bill is not perfect LULAC is pleased with most of the provisions. It’s obvious that both parties gave ground which is evidence of true compromise. LULAC is heartened that the DREAM students and agricultural workers will have a shorter path to citizenship in the proposed plan. LULAC has consistently advocated for a family reunification component as part of immigration reform and is concerned that the proposed bill scales back family-sponsored immigration by eliminating the ability to sponsor siblings, or children over the age of 30. Likewise, LULAC is dispirited that same-sex couples may not benefit from the proposed legislation; and is opposed to making the pathway to citizenship contingent on additional border enforcement measures which are a waste of taxpayer dollars. There is sufficient data to indicate that border states are already safe – in fact the safest in the country – and misspending billions on apprehension and enforcement is nothing but an expensive attempt to win over immigration opponents. http://www.chron.com/business/press-releases/article/LULAC-Hails-the-Introduction-of-Bipartisan-4442319.php

LULAC filed suit against the state of Ohio, over a loophole that allowed illegal aliens to register their automobiles. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/11/latino_group_sues_ohio_says_ne.html

Call Senator Portman and ask him to cancel his speaking engagement at the LULAC convention.
