The Songkran Festival is one of the most important events for Thai communities all over the world, held in celebration of Thai New Year’s Day. This event in LA consists of dance and live music performances on multiple stages, authentic Thai food sampling, arts and crafts exhibits, a beauty contest and kids’ activities. The festival is known as the “Biggest Cultural Event Outside of Thailand.” Try pad thai, satay and other delicious exotic dishes; buy hand-made souvenirs for your friends and family; watch a parade, boxing matches, sword fights, fashion shows and fruit carving demonstrations. Over 200 vendors’ booths will offer you an endless range of products. Thai community members will be happy to answer your questions about history, art and customs. You will feel the warmth and hospitality inherent in Thai culture. Many celebrities, including Marisa Tomei and Logan Marshall Green, have been spotted at the festival. Thousands of years worth of tradition are squeezed in this one day in April, giving you a chance to travel to Bangkok without even leaving the US.
