Monthly Meetup

Hi, I'm new to this guild and feel that permaculture in Gainesville/Alachua could use a jumpstart. I think organizing some meet-ups could be great! Not sure what locations would be best for everyone, but I do have a house in Gainesville that could be used for this. Would anyone be interested in trying to strengthen the permaculture community here?

Who posted this? The first monthly meet up could be the one that is scheduled for May 30th at Merry Springs Health & Wellness! I encourage those who have RSVP'd for this event to RSVP for the May 30th event. Here's the link: http://www.meetup.com/The-Alachua-County-Permaculture-Guild/events/221876767/

The first step in increasing connectivity with this Meetup is to find two or preferably three reliable venues somewhat central to Alachua County. It would seem that somewhere within the Gainesville city limits would be most convenient for our members. Perhaps near I-75 or US 441. Suggestions anyone?

Merry springs health and wellness center is on east university ave and is a permaculture property in the making. I messaged Song Weaver today after seeing your most recent post and he is very willing to host a monthly meetup at his place. As am I with my place in Micanopy albeit on the southern end of alachua county it is closer for our friends in Marion county that are also gaining interest in permaculture and I'm sure would attend a monthly get together. I'm glad you're in the area doing your great work and I hope we can collaborate on making this happen.

Joseph, I love your place in Micanopy. I didn't realize there was such a growth spurt in Marion county so your place certainly make a whole lot of sense. I think, regardless of the venue or venues it to have Meetups on a consistent and regular basis. The time to meet and greet and share information and connections is so valuable and in my view is the reason Meetup was created in the first place.

Hi. My husband and I would be interested in attending a monthly meet-up depending on the day/time. Weekends are best for us but we can make a week night work as well. We live in Live Oak so it would be a bit of a drive but we are very interested in meeting other like minded people in this area to discuss permaculture concepts and ideas.

Mosswood farm store would be more than happy to host a monthly meetup of permies. Or bimonthly so we could use some other spaces in the wider Alachua county area. We are open to anything.

Yes, I would. Having a list on a computer doesn't constitute a community. That takes face time and sharing knowledge. Is there someone on this list that actually knows how to permaculture in Alachua county? If not, this is a waste of time to follow.

Will come if the meeting is in/near Gainesville. Mosswood farm store is close enough. I know several times people have tried to hold a permaculture course, but they were either far away, or not enough people to get off the ground. How about mini teach-ins or something?

It's all being planned now we are working on a loose weekend warrior PDC starting in jan. Until then we will be doing a set of workshops around Alachua county. The first bieng a intro meet and greet workshop at Mosswood on September 21 st. Followed by a fermentation workshop at Oliver Moore's place in oct.
