Clash of Titans: Sparkling challenges Champagne

Meet our titans Champagne and Sparkling.

The world has met this challenge trying to infuse the quality into a reasonably priced bottle of double fermentation wine! From the ends of Australia to the spanish cava's teenage rebellion we want to find out who will be the winner.

Our host for the evening will be Dieuwke Engelsma of Wijnhandel Koninginneweg. She will carefully demonstrate contrasts and  compare champagne with top sparkling wines, (e.g. franciacorta of premium Prosecco, premium Cava, Vouvray, new-world sparkling wine, UK).

We are looking at 8 tasting moments and food to match as usual.

Will champagne reign supreme in this epic forum where all wine lovers love to test the waters and revel in the bubbled nuance that is the champers!

As always RSVPS are confirmed by payment to the account selected.

Different setup to our other tastings, our host was relaxed and showed a indepth and diverse knowledge of Champagnes and the whole process. Some wonderful examples of Champagnes and a beautiful Fallet Prevostat!

Well TJ, there is no better way to betray your red love, than with champagne!

I'm still debating...normally I only drink red wine, and moving away from it sounds like too big a commitment-- almost a betrayal ;)

Hey Alex, we have a location for the tasting. The New meetup website will not allow me to add this to the meetup details. I am trying to sort it out. Thanks for the suggestion.

I spoke with Sander last time that we can organize one of the wine tasting sections in my new office for a very reasonable price ;-) . Let me know if you want to come and see the place one of this days. It's in the city center, next to Haarlemmerstraat.

Just for the protocol: It wasn't me who said so! :o) And besides that Germans drink a lot of Cava, I only had one great Sekt (Mueller Thurgau, Nitteler Leiterchen, converted to Sekt with Champagne method by a small wine restaurant & seller in Lübeck) in all my 30 years in Germany... - So I'd love to taste French and Spanisch sparkles.

Don't forget Sekt from Germany for this Challenge! ;-)

Hey Christelle, Yes it will definitely happen but due to unforseen commitments it will happen in February. Our first tasting to break in the New Year.

Is it going to happen? I was already looking forward to it.

Hey Guys, well this suggestion looks like its a strong contender for the next tasting. Apolagies if the emails everyone got said the beginning of January as it would actually be the end of january with more details to follow very soon!

Sure that's a great idea. We could ask Taste & Tintle for support (I had already asked them for general interest before your idea posting and they were positive - but I have no idea how much they would ask for it). Also last year I did a tasting with the official Champagne ambassadeur from the wine shop in Koniginnenweg. That one was great, but quite expensive. See you soon hopefully & have a great bubbly NYE!
