I am a part of the Anchorage Tango group and one of the owners of The Red Chair Café. Tango has been going on at Inner dance for around a year now (7:30-10 pm), I have not heard of it being placed on ‘hold’ but am checking into that. The coordinator for the Inner Dance night is Dustin and Katie (it used to be Dan and Hiroko but Dan is on an extended trip Outside). We still have a tango practica at Hiroko’s house every Friday around 9 pm. EXCEPT for the third Friday of the month when I host a milonga at The Red Chair Café (originally the start time was 9 but I will have to bump it to 9:30 due to our offering dinner service).

 

 

 

 

 

The best place to stay up on most things Argentine Tango is through the Facebook page ‘Anchorage Tango’. All of these events (and any special occurrences such as visiting teachers) tend to be posted there right away.

A kind, Mr. Doug Stephens emailed me to tell me that although the Inner Dance Yoga Studio did not have it on their schedule, a certain "Doug and Katie" start their tango class there at 7:30pm.  

 

 

 

 

 

I called the Inner Dance Studio.  I actually got through to a real person and she is checking on this for me, and even looking for a phone number for this "Mr. Doug."  

In case you know him, I sure would like to speak with "Doug" about this class as a room full of people who know what they are doing and are familiar with this dance, and the social norms associated with it, and thus are in a Tango Free-For-All / Tango Cage Match, would  not be my thing.

There are no Tango Night Clubs in Anchorage. There is a group of people who practice weekly but it's in one of the members home and I am not sure if it is open to the general public. The owner of the Red Chair Cafe on 4th Ave will occassionally host a practice session after hours, we can keep you posted. Otherwise, Patrick and I know both Argentine and American Tango if you wish to learn. Perhaps we can start our own Tango group. I learned my Tango from Janice Faber who is now retired in Arizona but she does return to Alaska in the summers (at least for now) and teaches weekly at the Asia Garden when she's here...can keep you posted on this as well.     Also, we have a three hour boot camp scheduled Saturday 2/8th if you're interested.     Roxanne     Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android
