What we’re about

The Art House Film Forum is a discussion group dedicated to exploring great films of the past and present. Our goal is to foster intelligent, stimulating conversations about cinema by bringing together likeminded cineastes.

Once a month, we’ll meet to discuss a different classic selected beforehand. Those attending the meeting will be expected to view the film at home and come to discuss it with others. Our viewing list will be drawn from the works of classic arthouse auteurs (Godard, Mizoguchi, Tarkovsky), old Hollywood masters (Ford, Hawks, Hitchcock), and contemporary greats from around the world (Weerasethakul, Sokurov, Reichardt). Consider this like a book club, except for film.

For the most part, we’ll be focusing on films that are available through the Edmonton Public Library. This is to ensure all members have quick, affordable access to the films chosen for discussion. In particular, we’ll be relying heavily on films available through the library’s streaming options such as Kanopy, which includes a number of films from the Criterion collection as well as some noteworthy contemporary releases.

More information about those streaming services is available here: https://www.epl.ca/teen-subject/watch/
