Sketching/Painting/Photography at Mill Race Village

Be inspired by the beautiful houses and serene landscape within the Mill Race Village! We will meet at the gazebo and spend a couple of hours sketching/painting or even taking photographs. Whatever you feel like doing that day. We will then head to the nearby Northville downtown for dinner/drinks.

Adwoa, I really liked your idea to teach/demo a collage workshop. Saw some good ones @ the Civic Center Library gallery & the Northville Art House. Let me know if you want me to reserve a free room at Civic Center or Sandburg (7 & Middlebelt-only Saturday afternoons or Tue evenings). Anyone else interested?

I had an excellent time. I got some work done and I'm always for a snack or outing after working.

Was disappointed that there was not a lesson, but Greg made up for it with his memorable story of the history of men's swimwear at the after meal.

It looks like I am not going to be able to stay for long. I am moving in a couple of weeks and have a ton to do :( Will be there for an hour. If anyone would like to offer to host it would be much appreciated!

Guests/kids are welcome Michelle! It's an outdoor event and we will be sketching so it should not be a problem. As long as they don't get bored...

Yes, I think from Ann Arbor 14 to Sheldon is the most direct. Take it north a couple/few miles & it changes into Center St. In downtown Northville take a right on Main St (~7 & a half Mile Rd) go 2 or 3 blocks to Griswold, turn left & it is immediately on your left. Even from Belleville, it's a shorter (but slower & more scenic) route taking Belleville Rd then north of Mich either continue on Canton Center & at some point go half a mile east to pick up Sheldon. All those changing road names is very confusing & just contributes to getting people lost.

You would probably take M14 and the Sheldon Road exit to get to Mill Race Village. It would be best to check online. Hope to see you there!

depending on where you live it will probably take u up 14 to 275 to 8 mile etc but that is just my guess coming from ann arbor...I live in Belleville...it is only about 22+ miles about a 30 minute drive for me.

Just joined... I take it I'm not the only artsy sort with health issues around, eh? If I'm feeling up to it I may join in. It's a bit of a drive for me but sounds like fun.

I meant more suitable for sketching rather than painting--but photography would be good. You can see most of the buildings fairly well from the benches close to the parking lot esp with binoculars. It's not all spread out acres apart like Greenmeade in Livonia or Greenfield Village in Dearborn is.

I don't think I'll be able to walk from the regular lot at the east end--the way my ankle's been acting up--but do I recall closer parking at one of the places next door to the north or south of the gazebo? I know I even suggested meeting there, but I forget sometimes that my walking ability isn't what it used to be--& we would probably have to bring chairs, etc. as well since I don't think there are any picnic tables. I think there are benches, so maybe more appropriate for sketching. Maybe we could meet near the parking lot instead--or Tracey & I can hang closer to the entrance--the gazebo is at the far end.
