DIA: Drawing in the Galleries Event

Some of us would like to go to the DIA on Friday, July 13, from 6-9p for the DIA event Drawing in the Galleries. They provide complimentary materials with an instructor with an admission ticket. We will be in the European/Medieval Room.

If at least ten of us are going for sure (so far I think we have 13 going) the DIA is willing to have me prepay on my credit card for a group rate. I would have to pay by Friday, July 6. So if you want a $1 discount (down from $8 general admission for non-Detroit residents) you can make arrangements to pay me $7 prior to when I have to pay them. The easiest way I think to pay me is via my PayPal account. You can send me an email on here if you are interested.

If you are a Detroit resident and have some form of state id to show, you get in for free anyway on Friday's.

If you don't want to bother you can come and pay $8 general admission. I think they accept cash and credit cards. You still will have access to everything.

There will be live music. A puppetry event (Puppet Slam) going on where various puppeteers showcase their talents. A cash bar.  Cafe DIA (buffet style food and drinks with nice seating) will be available from 5-9p where I think they accept cash and credit cards. They also said Kresge Court (drinks available for purchase and maybe some light snacks with nice seating) may be open as well. I think they take cash and credit cards also.

We are all at different skill levels so I think this would be a lot of fun to play around with doing some art at the Museum. I know other artists/artistic people that do this and they really enjoy it.

By the way, they said today that the rooms they do this in change every Friday. Something to think about for in the future if we want to do it again.

We had a great time. So many of those who attended got into their projects with success. I enjoyed my own project and it's always nice to encourage others and to be encouraged. Rebecca it was great to see you again and thanks for pitching in to make this work.

I was tied up in clinic and can't make it tonight. I hope there's another opportunity to meet and create art soon! Any chance of a future meet up a little later or on the weekend? My clinic schedule is too unpredictable to make it anywhere by 6pm. Have a blast for me!!

per DIA.org: "Tonight's Location: European: Medieval and Renaissance, W230, W231". All supplies are provided. Remember not to bring back packs or other large bags as they do not allow them in the museum. We are not getting a group discount, so it's the regular admission price of $8 per person.

Looks like a lot of you are coming from work and with rush hour, might not get there by 5:45pm. I'll still try to be there by then, but we'll wait for anyone else til 6:15pm before going off to draw in the galleries.

I will be leaving from Northville at 5:45 assuming that traffic from Ann Arbor isn't too horrible. Let me know exactly who will need to carpool. Can we meet somewhere between Canton and Northville? My email is [masked]. I am looking forward to the DIA!!

    Hi!
Can I share a ride with someone who's leaving from Ann Arbor or nearby? I'll help with gas!

    July 10, 2012

Do you want to meet at the Ikea parking lot on Ford Rd? But the earlies I can be there is 5:30 and that is if traffic is not too crazy. So most likely we won't get to DIA until 6pm if you don't mind being late. Think the group is meeting at 5:45? Also if you don't mind my car is a mess.

I am from Canton also. But I will be going there from work, which is in Monroe, since it's on a Friday.

I hope you guys still make it. I am really sorry for the recent events and am disappointed that I could nor manage things better....unfortunately I am away and will be back in a few days but will not be able to host. I have had to remove Petra as a member as she sent me some really rude emails. Please don't worry sbout any payments you may have made via paypal for this event. I can assure you, you will get that back. Enjoy and I hope to organize something soon!

I'm an intersted in going. I oil paint portraits as a hobby but first began by doing sketches at the Cleveland art museum. However, do I look for a cat at the DIA entrance? Rebecca, what do you look like?

I know there's been a bit of drama with this meetup, which is regrettable. But I hope everyone else is still interested. I know I'm looking forward to it. I'll stand-in as the one to meet everyone at 5:45pm. We can each pay for ourselves at the ticket counter then go on to the galleries at 6pm as a group.

Let's plan to meet in the Farnsworth ticket lobby at 5:45pm. There is a public parking lot right across the street from that entrance or there is street parking.

There is also a music concert at 7 and 8:30 that night that would be part of the admission price - http://www.dia.org/calendar/event.aspx?id=3271&iid=.

Please also to remember to pay the annual fee to Gopa for the meetup.com cost.

Hope to see you all there!
