Open Stage

Whether you're looking for your big break, want to perfect your live performance skills, or just want to perform live for the sheer fun, Open Stage nights at The Ark offer wonderful, warm audiences and a terrific stage on which to play.

Open stages at The Ark take place on select Wednesdays throughout the year. A total of 15 performers are chosen to play each open stage. A group or performer is given eight minutes (or two songs) to do their thing. Sign up works like this: the doors of The Ark open at 7:30 p.m. At 7:45 p.m. we randomly select the names of those who will play during the first half. At 8:30 p.m. we draw the names for the second half. While it varies greatly, we usually get around 30 performers or groups looking to play. If your name isn't chosen on a night, bring your raffle ticket with you to the next Open Stage and you'll have twice the chance to play.

Ark Open Stages are hosted by Michael Shelata, a long time area open stage performer.

Entry at Open Stage cost $3 or $2 for Ark members, students, or seniors.

Open Stages are free to Ark members at the Solo level and above.

After the Open Stage, at around 9pm, we will head to Jolly Pumpkin across the street for a drink and to get to know the others in the group. Hope to see you there!

Though not an organizer, know that the lobby downstairs is tiny, whereas some faces will surely be recognized as meetup people if only to relieve the stress of individuals showing up alone. Some attendees will surely drift over to the refreshment/snack bar upstairs and to the left upon arrival, but know that value is added for securing a table or two near the stage and clustering a few attendees there so the group with cohere and the event experienced together for the effort made. The venue isn't so large nor the floorplan so complex that people will necessarily get lost and not make contact, hence gently nudge your neighbor or discreetly ask strangers if they are part of the meetup group. For so doing, a cluster of attendees will soon enough becomes visible, and with that others in rough orbit will take notice and all might be well. At rock bottom worst, attending Open Stage at the Ark is a pleasure even in the lightest of company.

I hope we have enough space because this might be quite a gathering. If it becomes too big that we cannot all sit together as a group, do bear in mind that in about an hour we will head across the road for drinks. I will reserve a table for 25 -30 so we can all get to meet the other members of our funmeetup :)

I'm new to the group and won't know anybody. Where will we meet? How early should I arrive?

Welcome to the group Melissa! Sorry I did not reply earlier. We will meet inside the Ark (on main street) 7:45pm onwards. I will reserve a couple of tables there. I will email my number a day before to the attendees so that you can call/text me if you are not sure where we are. See you there!

Hello. This will be the first meet up for me with the group. I'll be there to enjoy the performances! I pass by the Ark every time I am in Ann Arbor and have never been there. This will be a welcome first, plus it will be nice to meet all of you!

I will come and play the Open Stage for you all. If 5 people say they want to see me, I'll get an automatic slot.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
