I love the art song genre, have performed recitals for many years, taught many students the art songs of Niles, Copland, Ives, Bernstein, Rorem, Still, Bonds, King, Moore, Price, Beach, Jankowski, Boulanger, Malibran, Viardot, Hensel, Clara Schumann, Alma Mahler, Schubert. Schumann, Strauss and many more of the favorites and most recently, Max Kowalski,[masked] (Holocaust composer) who I have researched and championed over the last 20 years.
Cannot narrow down to only 3 but maybe Strauss, Schumann, Mahler and Schubert of the known German. Ives, Niles and Bernstein of the American men. WGStill (his daughter is a close friend and I loved performing his music for her programs) Bonds and Price are some of my favorite African American composers. Hensel, Mahler, Schumann are three of my very favorite women composers. Die Sonne Sinkt is a three song cycle of Kowalski which I adore, on the poetry of Nietzsche. How can one even begin to narrow down a field of music that is so varied and wealthy?
If time permits. My health is not good. Would like to come to presentations.
My friend and accompanist, Angela Manso.
