It's almost Summer and you know what the means? Summer of Song is almost here! Join us as we kick off the first of many wonderful programs and events on May 16th with an homage to the Bi-Centennial of the death of French composer, Francis Poulenc (1869-1963) featuring, Thomas Grubb's French diction and vocal repertoire classes at the Juilliard School in recital. The concert is free and will be held at the Juilliard School (155 West 65th Street, Room 305, Lincoln Center Plaza) Reservations are recommended. RSVP at ASPSNY@gmail.com. The first of the Summer of Song master classes will be held on June 1st at 1pm at Opera America and will focus on"Art Songs by Women Composers" with Dr. Carol Kimball. Carol Kimball, widely known for her book, Song: A Guide to Art Song Style and Literature, will work with a variety of singers performing the works of composers like, Lori Laitman, Rebecca Clarke, Libby Larsen, Alma Mahler, Clara Schumann, Barbara Strozzi, Pauline Viardot, and Fanny Mendelssohn. One lucky attendee to this event will have a chance to win an autographed copy of Kimball's latest book, Art Song: Linking Poetry & Music. ASPS is also proud to present in a summer recital, Michael Weyandt (baritone), the winner of the 2012 Mary Trueman Vocal Competition. Michael will partner with internationally-acclained pianist, Thomas Muraco, in an evening concert of French, German, Italian and American art songs. It is another wonderful event that simply shouldn't be missed. The concert will be held in the auditorium of Opera America on June 20th at 7pm. Positively Poulenc Finals are open to the public and are being held onMay 16th at 1pm at New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center, Bruno Walter Auditorium. Judging the competition will be: Elly Ameling, Dalton Baldwin, Robert Gartside, Rosemarie Landry, Lorraine Nubar, Paul Sperry and Pierre Vallet!!
