Local actor and playwright Jeffrey James Ircink will stage a five-minute excerpted reading at 6:30 p.m. from Yasmina Reza's comedic play, “Art”. The play, which won the Tony Award in 1998, examines the question, “what is art?”, and how this ensuing debate affects the relationship of three long-time friends.

Mandel Group Creative Studio directed by Plaid Tuba is literally bursting at the seams with new work by the artists-in-residence, Pamela Anderson, Reginald Baylor, Melissa Dorn Richards, Amanda Sue Gerken, Chrystal Denise Gillon; and the Cream City Illustrators.

The studio has been flurry of activity as four large canvases were being constructed in preparation for Reggie’s new work. So large, in fact, it took two people to walk each one to his studio in the Marshall Building. Before the last canvas was out, the Cream City Illustrators were in matting and framing for their exhibition “The Art of Children’s Storybooks”. And there seems to be no end to creativity and production by the resident artists. Get a glimpse into each of their new work below.

Pamela Anderson's recent works in Acrylic, Watercolor, Spray Paint, Oil Pastel on Canvas and Paper denotes passion for the sublime and the undiscovered. Her paintings are creations not depictions of what already exists. Her abstractions are about discovery of form and color as she sees them and revealed for your interaction with her deepest emotion.

At Reginald Baylor Studio the drawing has begun and those four canvases will be filled with color soon. As always it’s a beehive of activity as they work to meet multiple deadlines, including being one of the ten featured artists at the Haggerty Museum for Current Tendencies II opening in August.

Melissa Dorn Richards’ Salt Pile Series has grown to 10 paintings, including the largest canvas she’s worked on to date, and numerous pastel sketches. Her studio is exploding with bold color and recycled bits of black velvet paintings.

Amanda Sue Gerken fabricates work that combines strong foundations in space planning with elements of graphic design to create poetic pieces of architectural space. Media includes prints, paintings, photography, three dimensional models and spatial arrangements.

Chrystal Denise Gillon’s studio is buzzing with creative energy as she works to complete a 20 piece collage/assemblage series titled, “Mama Said”. The pieces are worked out on sardine cans and cause one to ponder those quotes and phrases your mother said to you as you were growing up.

Cream City Illustrators presents “The Art of Children’s Storybooks” featuring original artwork by Joanne Bowring, Elizabeth Carr, Ned Gannon, Bonnie Leick, Jeremy Provost, Carol Schwartz, Stacey Williams-Ng and Reginald Baylor Studios. Please see attached press release for event details, including book signings and demos.
