****Are you watching Project Greenlight on HBO?**** Here's Just 1 Reason You should Be:
Right after he was chosen, this year's winning Director of "Project Greenlight", Jason Mann wanted the already pre-selected Screenwriter, Pete Jones (the first winner of "Project Greenlight"), fired off the project because he didn't believe Pete would be able to deliver the kind of script he needed.
After sitting with him and talking about the rewrite of the script, the director realized Pete was, in fact, not only the right Screenwriter for the job -- but also the right Screenwriter to help him re-write and polish his original script "The Leisure Class" (that HBO allowed Jason to use instead of the original script he was supposed to direct) and was devastated to learn Pete would not be allowed to join him on set to help with any on-set rewrites.
The Lesson: Writers write stories -- just because you're known in 1 genre doesn't mean you can't write great stories in another.
The reality-based docu series also explores a few hot button issues including: diversity in front of and behind the scenes; director-writer-producer collaboration; production scheduling and managing expectations between studio/network and director/producers.
