Practice Fire-Making!

Many of you out there in the meetup-land have your own fire-making kits, whether they be bow-drill, hand-drill, fire plow, fire saw, etc. Bring those and we will practice! If you have extra, bring extra, and I will try to bring a couple of extra kits as well. If you don't have a kit, you can buy one for a small fee.

If you have input for the date & time, speak now!

Very educational. I learned a lot and have altered my fire-making kit accordingly. There was a wealth of experience and good knowledge there too.

Hi everyone! We will be meeting at the mainentrance to the park under the back picnic shelter (there are two picnic shelters, the first one you see and one behind that). I am bringing bow drill stuff, but any fire making methods are welcome!

I've never been to one of these, I think I'd like to come check it out. Where exactly will the group be meeting?

I will be in that area until about 4 or 430...How long will the meet up take place?

I'd love to meet up with you all and practice fire making! Will we be going over various ways of doing it? I am still on a very novice level and have only learned how to do it via bow drill...which I would like to learn how to do much more efficiently.

The meetup will be at Mary Moore Searight Park in South Austin, so if you know of public transit to Austin, there are several city busses that go right near Mary Moore.

They'll be $10, but if you just want to practice and not bring one home, you can probably share with someone.

Alright everyone, it looks like the Burn Ban for City of Austin parks has been lifted for now, so we are free to use fire pits. We'll meet at Mary Moore Searight Park, where we will practice with a few different materials. If you have bow-drill kits, hand drill kits, fire plows, fire saws, flint & steel, fire pistons, or any other fire-making tool, please bring them! We will have a very limited amount of bow-drill kits for purchase. They will be $10 each. Watch for an email from me in the next couple of days with my phone number in case you need to contact me for any reason.

Hope to see a lot of you there!

I have some flint and steel kits, tucked neatly in Altoids tins. Takes just a few minutes to demo how to burn cloth into charcloth. If that fits in, and the location isn't too far from us, would that be a good add-in to the class?

We will need to find a place to light fires not affected by the burn ban, so stay tuned for the location.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
