Just Show Up

This is the regular meeting of the Fine Woodworkers of Austin Association.  It meets each month on the first Thursday at the Woodcraft store.  All are welcome.

Speaker:  John Swearingsen

Topic:  Antique Restoration: Pieces of Historical Significant, Texas Governor’s Mansion Furniture Restoration

John is basically a self-taught furniture restorer.  His father was a hobbyist woodworker;building, repairing and restoring furniture.  John inherited his father’s tools and eventually opened his own shop, buying, repairing and selling antiques. When the previous restorer at the Governor's Mansion retired about 15 years ago, John was asked to continue the work at the mansion.  Sense the mansion is a residence and is used to host Governor’s meetings, receptions and parties, John continues to repair pieces from the mansion.
