Give cold water to the homeless.

Every year, more homeless people die during the summer than in the winter, even in Canada. This is due to dehydration. Homeless people just love to get a bottle of COLD water when the temperatures are high.

Hi Everyone,

This is a meetup suggested by Nick. We do have a lemonade drop day and this will be a day where we do a water run for the homeless.  The BG Group, who donated our winter survival packs at our first Mobile Soup Kitchen event, will be donating 20 cases of water.  I will be picking the water bottles up on July 9th and we will assemble on this Saturday afternoon to hand them out to the homeless on the streets.  Although, keeping it cold might be a bit of problem for me. I'll think of something. The more the merrier at this event since the water bottles will be much too heavy for a small group.

Of course costumes are optional : )

It was great to be able to add that little bit of relief, though the young girl we met was especially heartbreaking.

We will all meet at the Gerrard/Seaton Beer store, 227 Gerrard St. East at 12:45pm. We have 10 volunteers which will be split into 2 groups. I thought maybe if you guys are up for it we can meet somewhere in the middle and enjoy a beer or two on a patio. I don't drink but a nice ice coffee out of my sumo suit will be nice.

    Hi all,
Great news, our 15 cases of water that was donated by the BG group will be stored at the Beer Store on Gerrard. Thanks to our superhero, Iron Man, for getting that sorted out. And thank you to some of you who have gone to other businesses, please go ahead and have them store the cases of water. We now have a lot! I'm so happy. If you some of you have rolling coolers, grocery carts or even a wagon to lend to the event please bring them with you.

Hi All, don't worry about bringing your own water. We have lots and will be distributing only the donated ones. Bring backpacks and carts if you have them. Any recommendations for a patio meetup?

Are we supposed to bring our own cases of water too? or are our duties just to distribute the cases of water that have been donated?

bad news... my son has an appointment at 2pm that afternoon in Bramption - I did not realize the conflict until this morning... sorry

I will still help with the freezing/cooling the water... and scoping out my local Beer Store as a holding area...

I was thinking of rotating them between the freezer, fridge and a maybe a garbage bag filled with cold water in the bathtub starting the day before. I can watch over four cases. Are they the regular 24x500ml bottles? I can drop some cases off with Cal too.

I can freeze (or at least cool) probably a of couple cases, depending on what size the cases are. (12 bottles? 18? 24? 30?) I don't have car so it'll probably be a maximum of 3 maybe 4 cases, whatever my laundry-cart-buggy-thingy will hold. (It is a big cart though! And could probably help on the street too.)

So I will have all the cases of water at my place on the 9th... and yeah I don't have enough room in my fridge or freezer... if you can pick up a couple cases from me before the event to freeze and keep cold it would be great!

Another idea is to have some of the bottles more or less still pretty frozen packed around the outside of the non-frozen ones to insulate them without taking up the extra space that ice/ice packs would, and they will melt as time goes and probably/hopefully be all liquid towards the end of the event.

Can I suggest perhaps freezing the water ahead of the day. That way, they should still be cold (but melted) by the time we hand them out...
That's what I usually do with mine...

yup, keeping the water cold is a challenge, because you need to put it in your fridge at least 24 hours before the event, and you may have space for 50 bottles max. You won't be able to get 20 cases of cold water. Each avenger should bring 12/24 cold bottles or so....

I can drive some of the water to where you plan to hand them out and possibly help out with keeping some of the water cooled or chilled. Let me know.
