It's that time of year again- Swim, Bike Runs (SBRs) have begun! This year, Jae will lead the charge as the BATC's Group Workout Director, and she has a lot of these planned!
The Club meets at the Hammerman beach area of the Gunpowder Falls Park. Meet in the parking lot near the beach house. The parking lot in front of the beach (you should be able to see sand from the parking lot). Jae will set out buoys approximately 300 yards apart. The Club swims parallel to shore in chest high water so you can stand up if needed. If you are brand new to open water swimming, we can modify your route, and you can swim short 100 yards between the docks. The swim is followed by two 7 mile bike loops and a 5k run inside the park. You can choose to do all or part of the workout. You may also swim, bike or run longer if you want to. The Club provides drinks and snacks post workout.
Please note the Club will have many of these workouts May-September, however, only a small select few will be posted on meetup. As I have mentioned before, the BATC is a brick-and-mortar club (and a 501(c)7) non-profit) that funds itself through our membership dues ($30 for calendar year). Dues pay for insurance, the food at workouts, open water swim coaches (we plan to bring to at least 2 SBRS this year) and clinics. We never turn people away from our open events (this SBR is an open event), but only members get info about the other SBRs, free clinics, and race course previews (we preview at least 5 local races courses). Membership also includes discounts with local and national triathlon merchants. In addition to workouts, the Club staffs BAT-only tents at local races to provide shade, food and drinks and support to our member who are competing in the race! Drinks and snacks provided by club.
The Club suggests that you come on out to an open event (like this one- or the Open water swim on the 28th) and try us out. We hope that you will enjoy your time with us and realize the value of our all-volunteer Board of Directors and join. If not, we wont look at you crossed-eyed. Promise.
Interested in joining? Check us out at Baltimoretriathlon.org. or email: [masked].
See you on the water or on the road.
