Happy New Year to all of the BATC meetup members!
As we get ready for the 2012 race season I wanted to outline the Club's plans for training, social events and races and remind you to go to the LinMark site and register to be a dues paying member. On Friday, January 13th we will hold our annual elections for the Board of Directors ("BOD"). The meeting and social will start at 6:30 at Falls Road Running Store. Any paid member is welcome to run for a spot on the BOD and all paid members are encourage to vote in person or by proxy.
The 2012 Season Preview:
We will continue our Sunday trial runs through April and everyone is encouraged to join the loosely held together group that runs the trails in Cromwell Valley park leaving no one behind. Runs last for 60-90 minutes with different pace groups.
Depending on the weather and daylight, weekday shorter rides (15-25 miles) will begin again in the spring, along with the bike speed workouts at Lake Montebello. Shorter rides will be in the evenings while the speed workouts will be an am routine. New this year is the possibility to turn the speed workouts into bricks- with an easy loop or two around the Lake after the ride. Long rides will begin in late March, but if we find a warm day between now and then I will hold impromptu rides on the weekends. Weekend off-season rides are all at a casual pace and are no-drop rides.
beginning in February, we will start our monthly meetings and some group exercise classes- like Yoga for Athletes. Classes that require BATC to pay an Instructor are open only to paid members (Its a perk of membership)
Our Swim, Bike runs will begin in May, with the chance of a few early spring open water swims for those racing in May. These swims will most likely be at the Hammerman area of Gunpowder Falls Park. The SBRS will continue once or twice per month through September. Our new triathlete program and new cyclist series will also begin this Spring!
The Group will continue with its social events, some that are paid for by the club and open to dues-paying members only. Other events will be cash bar events where anyone can attend and mingle with fellow athletes. Our kick-off picnic will most likely happen in the Spring. We will also continue to staff the aid stations at races with BATC members and volunteers.
The Fall will bring longer rides and runs as people gear up for fall marathons and century rides. I usually wrap up the Season by November as 9 months of running the club causes some fatigue.
Please remember that the Club supplies drinks and snacks for almost every large work-out, ride or event. We also carry club insurance and coordinate with the State DNR for use of Hammerman and other special events we may hold.
Tthe BATC is an inclusive club- we never want to turn anyone away because of financial difficulties. However, our dues are only $30 per year and you really do get a lot of benefits from paid membership. We have tents and food and select races, we feed and hydrate you after our large workouts, we hire Instructors and in the past have paid swim coaches to come to our SBRs to give pointers to those new to open water. We sponsor HHs and we buy insurance for club events. We also have club members with decades worth of riding and racing expereince who donate their time to run such programs as the new triathlete program and the new cyclist series. The club is 501(c)(7) non-profit, so we are bound by strict accounting rules and ethics, so you never have to worry about your money being wasted. I ask that if you can afford the membership dues, please join and come to vote for the 2012 BOD this Friday. If you cant attend the meeting, please join anyway and help support the triathlon community and all the BODs and members who share their years of knowledge with you because we care about your races and we love the sport. I have include the registration link below. Please reach out to me with any question you may have. Train Hard!
