I completely agree.  Euthanize the animals - so long as you have their written permisson.

I would certainly consider it a victory if PETA could make KFC kill chickens more humanely. I do not know if gassing chickens is more humane than slitting their throats - it does seem to be more humane.

As long as there are people eating meat, there will be corporations that want to sell meat. So I do not think KFC is the problem. People need to be educated to stop or at least reduce the consumption of meat. As far as I can see PETA is doing a very good job of raising awareness.

Keeping animals alive at any cost is not very humane, if the animals are sick or kept in confined spaces. It IS more humane euthanize them when you are not able to release them into the wild for whatever reasons.

I am not aware of the lettuce ladies or the KKK stunt. They might have been some misjudgment on their part - but terming that as 'embracing' the oppression of women and minorities a bit of a stretch. I cannot imagine that they support or condone the oppression of any gender, race, or species.

As a disclaimer, I am not a member of PETA, but I do certainly appreciate their efforts.

Ravi

I totally agree with you Allie. However, you can't deny that PETA does have a place along the spectrum. While I don't agree with 100% of their tactics/views, I do think they do more than anyone else to bring it to the forefront of middle-America.

Love them or hate them, they get themselves and animal rights/welfare issues into the mainstream. For that alone, they have value.

The video link didn't work for me, so I can't form an opinion on it. I have a few points I'd like to discuss on PETA, though. They are not an animal rights organization, they are an animal welfare organization. They work with animal agriculture industry to increase profits by killing more efficiently, exemplified by the Controlled-Atmosphere Killing campaign. KFC has agreed to gas their chickens (rather than slit the throats); this agreement was not reached for the benefit of the chickens. This agreement was reached because it would be an easy "victory" for PETA (Killing animals is a victory? Really, PETA?) and it would increase the bottom line for KFC.

PETA euthanized over 2000 adoptable animals last year alone. Their defense? They are not a shelter.

Any responsible, respectable animal rights organization takes a stance against oppression in all forms. PETA embraces oppression of women and minorities. Take a look at their Lettuce Ladies or their KKK stunt for two appalling examples.
