If you like shopping for bargains, as I do, you might like to know that the Aldi grocery stores offer some great prices on produce and a number of other things. They have some nice generic brand cereals at great prices, including Cheerios and Grapenuts (their brand is called Nutty Nuggets).
They also have brown rice at a little over $1 a pound, and a several types of whole wheat pasta at about $1 a box. They recently started selling their own brand of vegetarian chili, which I like better than Trader Joe's or Hormel's. I also sometimes buy their generic version of Triscuits (a bit too salty, but tasty), and enjoy them with hummus. And their whole wheat bread and canned cashews are also worth checking out.
Lots of nice prices on veg staples can also be found at Trader Joe's and at Save-A-Lot grocery stores. Save-A-Lot offer frozen collards (hard to find elsewhere) at about $1.20 per 16 oz. bag.
Please let the group know about any great buys you may have found. Happy Shopping!
We are a very people-friendly group that welcomes anyone who would like to talk about any aspect of the vegetarian or vegan lifestyle, including health, food preparation, animal protection, ecology, activism, spirituality, and more. Come and check out the great food and conversation!
